Sky Q box slow but mini box OK

I realise there have been quite similar threads to this but having read loads of them I'm not sure they answer my problem.

A couple of weeks ago after a period of my Sky Q box failing to play back recordings I contacted Sky.   At that time the ONLY fault was on playback of recordings - often giving a "Technical Error with this channel" error and freezing. Sometimes forwarding past the dodgy bit worked. After carrying out a full factory reset (after all the more minor resets), the box couldn't get a satellite signal but as another box was on the way by then I wondered if it had just finally completely died. I'm now questioning whether a faulty box can damage the LNB.

When the new box arrived I connected it and it worked straight away. Satellite signal working and channels working. Signal strong. Recording worked, no failures. However, the box was extremely laggy. It was taking 10 seconds or so to change channel, sometimes the menus hung when scrolling through them and when you did change channel the sound would come on before the video. I spoke to Sky - resets etc and software upgrades done but it was concluded that the replacement box was faulty. Another was sent.

I have attached the new box and agin it is working but it is still laggy. Strangely not as bad as the last one - but still bad. It takes about 5 seconds to respond to a channel change on the remote. The menus are sometimes slow. Apps, recording etc etc are working.  I have tried all the usual things and no, there is no overheating etc. The box is exactly where my first one stood for years. The whole setup is exactly as it was before my first box was sent back.

Strange thing (to me) is that throughout all this the mini box I have has been fine and perfectly responsive so whilst I have been wondering could this this lagginess be a faulty LNB, I can't see how that could be if the mini box is working.

The only other clue perhaps is that occasionally the box says it has no internet access. This is despite it being wired via ethernet cable  to the (Sky) router.

I do run the boxes with wifi turned off as I use a wifi mesh in the house but this isn't new - that is how the old one was set up and it responded perfectly normally to commands.

Any ideas?

So the box is connected via ethernet to a mesh node?

Re: Sky Q box slow but mini box OK

No. Direct to the Sky router. WiFi is turned off on the router. The mesh network is backhauled to a FFTP network via the sky router. This setup has not changed with all the box changes so I question why you ask?

wifi networking is off on the sky boxes. The main box recognises it's wired connection to the sky router

streaming etc is flawless.

The wired connection to the internet is fast >800mb

I asked because I was trying to figure out the context

I have this theory that if the sky bix is connected at 1Gb it gets upset. Is there any way you could test that ethernet connection at 100Mb?

Re: Sky Q box slow but mini box OK

Typically the speed at the box is 800Mb or so but in any case, this is another thing that has not been changed between the old and new boxes. Of course I can't say for certain these boxes are the same hardware.

Since I am getting nowhere fast with this I am going t o try some different network configurations. Starting with reserving the SkyQ box an IP address..

The old Sky box may not have had a gigabit port. That could have changed without you knowing.
