Sky Q box rental

Hello, I have just had a call from Sky as my contract ran out on Friday. We was told we could keep the Sky Q box to record and watch freeview for £7 a month on a rolling contract which we agreed to do.

However after just switching my Sky Q box back on it says we need to upgrade our subscription to record?

The only reason we decided to return was for the recording function which it appears we have been mis sold.

Any ideas how to fix this or should I just ring retentions tomorrow and tell them to see what they can do as it renders the box pointless if it's just freeview channels and no record function.

Depends on what you are trying to record @Ads83 ?

For clarity, Sky Television Essentials is free-to-air satellite channel (not 'Freeview') reception plus recording and playback of those channels.

Freeview is digital terrestrial television broadcast from masts and received through an aerial.

I was trying to record ITV (channel 3) which is a freeview channel, as it was showing on the box but when I pressed Record it came up  you need to upgrade your subscription. So I still don't understand when I clearly asked the call centre, does it record for £7 a month i was told "yes you can record freeview channels". But it doesn't.

Re: Sky Q box rental

Sorry for not being clear enough, but obviously, I know this! I am using the sky q box to watch TV so if it was through an ariel I would not have this issue.

Yeah it's just terminology matters and accuracy avoids confusion when diagnosing problems. They're not "freeview" channels when you're using satellite. You know what you know and really mean but people reading your posts / questions can't know that.

I reckon the new subscription hasn't been applied on your viewing card yet. I would call them.

Yes, sorry I do agree, I should have been more clear when explaining it.

Thank you all for your help, I will see if it has changed tomorrow and if not, then I'll get in touch with customer services.
