Your right...I missed a trick there. Should of bought a load of the extenders, put stickers on them and flogged them on here.
This time next year I'll be on Dragons Den in one of the armchairs!! : )

@Gaz1 wrote:Strangely enough I never had a problem with my SkyQ until I recently upgraded my Virgin Media Hub.
MIne had been floorless for 20+ years until September when I decided to upgrade to the Gig1 Fibre broadband. I had to change my Hub to the new Virgin Media Hub5. I had daily dropouts so naturally blamed the Hub. A virgin tech quite rightly explained that if my other WiFi gadgets such as phone, Laptop, Nest etc all maintain a WiFi connection then it is down to the SkyQ box and not the Hub.
The range extender is not as strong a signal as it only gets 80 - 95 mhz signal in my front room opposed to 560- 600 mhz if i connect via my main router. Luckily SkyQ does not require a large bandwith to work.
Subsequently my lack of knowledge with Mesh networks, Nodes, swithes etc led me to such a basic fix!
Assume you mean Mbps rather than MHz? That's to be expected. The direct connection to the router (are you testing that from the same location the extender is in?) will probably be wifi6 which uses mich wider channels so is a lot faster and it also doesn't have to soak up half its bandwidth by retransmitting what it's receiving like the extender does. But as you say, you only need about 20Mb to get Q downloads quick enough.

@ChodleyI did indeed mean Mbps...I was just checking you were on the Ball Chodley and you passed the test my friend... : ).
And may I say how good it is Chodley to have someone with your knowledge on here to explain these things to us. I genuinely have No Clue about this technically.

At least you'll actually get to watch it on Sky Q!

This has started happening a lot for me now too, three times this past 48 hours nothing to do with broadband which is working. Sky box dish see sems to be problematic. Re-setting box worked yesterday but this morning no internet connection again.

We're having the same issue sky after 3 weeks of being messed around with people not calling back have sent a new sky a box but still getting the same connection issues and minis won't link. Shocking that they can't get this right. With BT with no other device getting issues
23 Nov 2023 02:46 PM
Yes, it's really bad form on Sky's part. I can only suggest you implement the same set up that @Gaz1 suggested in an earlier post (and which I've now done). Mine has been running without connection problems since, but it is still a bit too early to say for sure as I was able to keep a stable connection for a few weeks at a time, before getting the issues.

Mine has been perfect since adding a dumb switch to the equation. I don't know why this should work, as effectively it's just passing traffic through, but it does.
Terrible of Sky not to address this with a software update though!

As annoying and frustrating as it is that we are enduring this problem we are but a handful.
Sky has 12.7 million UK customers and based on the conversation with the Sky engineer, another engineer he called to ask, and subsequently the Guru Engineers they seek tech advice from, its not a well known issue.
I know that the DNS server digit changes that the Tech Guru suggested and both failed are being passed back to the Tech Gurus so they will be aware.
Although my connection issue has been fixed with the amazingly simple fix, i will be hammering at Sky until I can connect SkyQ directly to my router.

Yep. All the classic symptoms.

I am experiencing the same issue, never used to happen with my Sky HD box but happens every day since I had Sky Q box installed in October extremely frustrating.
i had a small booster with my previous box would this help?
Sky tech appear to be helpless in assisting.

Another person recently had success plugging their Q into a TP-Link re200 v1 over ethernet (configured the extender to connect to the router first and then plugged into the Q, then a network reset on the Q to use ethernet instead of wifi)
Worth a try

My fix was even simpler than that. Scroll through the posts and you will see my post about using a TP-Link range extender. Both my Virgin Hub and SkyQ were connected to this via wifi.
If you need more details just let us know. : )

I thought this issue was because my TV is ten years old but reading the thread it seems that it is actually Sky! Very annoying and frustrating - I spend half my viewing time unplugging my sky q box and waiting for the reboot!
Does anyone from
Sky actually look at this thread?
