I have the same problem. What's the fix?

Don't know, I tried various things without success and then as I was trying to find enough time to contact sky it returned by itself!

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

THis issue started suddenly one evening but basically connection to router never persisted. Was fine when with non fibre Bt but recently upgraded to full fibre GigaClear. Tried a lot of the suggestions here with no luck, so played with the special settings. Scroll to settings but don't press enter, type 001 then enter.  On the 5Ghz section change the 80Mhz/ch 36 to 40Mhz/ch 36. Confirm the changes. Don't think a reboot is required. Everything now works.

That's halving the bandwidth - but may still be ok.

So rather than using channels 36 to 48 it only uses 36 to 40.  (Which suggest something else is interfering on 44 > 48)

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

At least we have been connected since I made the change. I've ordered a cable and will try that rather than WiFi when it arrives.

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

Having read the first and last ten pages of this thread, I'm presuming there's no definitive answer?

Mine has been faultless for the 7 years I've had Sky Q and this week it keeps dropping wifi a couple of times a day.

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

I've been having this problem ever since I got SkyQ, in my last house with Virgin broadband and now with Sky Gigabit fibre broadband. The router from Sky is not pumpuing out a great wifi signsal which doesn't help so I have extenders all over the house, but even a wired in computer has regular bips and brief outages. I think it's the broadband or routers causing the problem some of the time, but it must be something to do with the SkyQ boxes themselves.

I notice that they are very heavily promoting the SkyGlass tv's now and that is obviously their way forward - reminds me of the 1950s and 60s when everyone rented their TVs from Redifusion!

Same here.

Time to ditch Sky, I think.

@Lins68 It's possible the "lots of extenders" you say you have are part of the problem - each one will use a wifi channel to connect between it and your router. If so, you could have saturated all your WiFi channels - there is a good open source program that will scan the frequencies of the channels in your home, and tell you how they are being used and by what. It's called wifi analyser, and you can get it for your phone from Google play store

Easiest to use on a mobile though, and you can use the information it provides to separate devices to their own channel within the wifi frequencies (ie 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz). You have progressively more channels to use from 2.4 to 6GHz, and some are restricted depending where you are, but the wifi analyser will tell you this info.

Other thing to check is the DNS your sky box uses (I had a similar problem which turned out to be down to the DNS requests timing out when using a starlink connection). If you go here: https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Q/Starlink-and-Sky-Q/m-p/5111328#M715116 and scroll down page 2, I posted a step by step for changing your DNS server on your sky box - has a few pics so is easy to find, and hopefully use.

Eugh 😡still happening. Have changed DNS, no change. Constantly have to reactivate and then it will drop again. Main sky q box is fine.

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

Mine started doing this ten days ago. I've tried all of the fixes on here including adding a sky booster which is wired directly to the router.

I can watch all the apps via my tv so it is definitely the sky Q box and not a signal issue. I've had a sky engineer also who didn't have a solution. It's difficult for me to see a way forward without a new Q box. It's difficult for is very odd, as if an update happened in the background and messed it all

up.

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

Had this problem over and over then when I was on box #4 the engineer stated the SkyQ Box has a **bleep** antennae - the signal is extremely weak - typical penny junk. I had a Repeater close by and she hooked up an ethernet cable from the back of the Sky Box to the Repeater. That was over 3 years ago and since then no dropped connections.

The antennae problem will not be sorted as Sky has dropped any development on the SkyQ Box. Their scripted solution is to use Sky Broadband which is false. The problem is within the SkyQ Box itself and that cheap antennae.

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

Thanks.

We've had the Virgin Media team over who say they've seen this quite a bit.  VM thoroughly checked the Internet connections and the signal was strong.   She tested on my phone while standing next to the Sky Q box and it was super strong.

But, the download speed on the Sky box is still awful.  Bfir a 1 hour programne each %age point takes about a minute!

To be fair, the Sky engineers tried really hard to fix it but it's no good.  It drops out less now that we've abandoned the wired connections but the slow download persists.  Bye bye Sky
