Sky Q box no longer connects to Internet

Main Q box will not hold a wifi connection anymore. I can reset the connection and it losses it again within minutes. 

I have tried connecting with a cable but it will not connect. Cable is working with other devices. 

I have recently changed provider and the only devices to be playing up are the main Q box and one of the mini boxes but that maybe because the main box is playing up and I have seen it. 

Have tried numerous resets turning power off, standing on 1 leg whilst patting my head and rubbing my belly but no joy. 

Anyone else having problems?

The Q box will only connect on 2.4GHz so ensure your new router has this enabled and has no steering to 5GHz.  I presume there's no mesh network involved as disconnections are quite 'normal' with such a setup.

 

The mini box connects to the main box via it's own 5GHz ch 36 network.  Your new router could be clashing with this frequency.

I'm having the EXA T same issue. I even ended up with a new skybox as a result but still doesn't work. If I connect an ethernet cable, my sky box freezes and wont work. On WIFI it connects for a few minutes then it drops. It sometimes randomly comes back but hardly. If I reset the box, it connects again for a few minutes then drops again.

I'm with Sky but not their router (as it's trash!)

My son is in IT and reckons all is good so cannot fathom out. Everything else works with no issue

All has been fine with my set - up - wireless BT internet to my Sky Q, BUT in the last few days the wife just keeps dropping out.  I reset everything and it holds for a few minutes, but then drops.

 

Its affecting the mini boxes and is making them all but useless as they struggle to maintain their connection.

 

We haven't changed a thing - so whats happening?

 

I have checked my BT set-up and changed the 5ghz off channel 36 to be sure there's no clash, but have never had to do that ebfore either.

I had this problem and have left my router on original settings not changed a thing. Check that 5ghz wifi is on smart ch 36 or 40 but not on ch 44. Then what I have done is change sky Q main box 5 ghz to 40mhz ch 44 (go to settings input 0 0 1 select, this takes you to engineers settings select network then 5ghz wifi channel width change this from 80mhz/ch 36 to 40mhz/ch 44) and then confirm. Now connect to your hub as normal you should notice main box doesn't drop connection. Fingers 🤞. Now select standby with your mini controller and unplug your mini for at least 30secs. Now plug back in and wait till mini restarts, connect to main box as normal you may find you have to do this a couple of times before mini connects. I have found this worked for me I have even got wifi hotshots turned on with no drops in connection. It could be that Sky Q main box blocks or interferes with router when both on 5ghz ch 36 for some reason. My Sky Q hasn't dropped connection in the last 4 days except when my main box goes to eco mode, when it "wakes up" it takes a few minutes to connect to hub but I can live with that. There are other ways to stop the drop outs by purchasing wifi extenders etc which can be found on this forum so happy watching.

Your not alone....mine has been knocked out for two weeks now until tonight when I wanted to watch Chelsea on red button I hadn't realised it needs WiFi to be connected so I had to reboot! OK now but tomorrow it will be down again I expect...I'm ditching sky as soon as I'm able to within my contract I just don't need the stress.

Fabulous!! I just set up a TP-Link Deco Mesh Wi-fi today and everything was working brilliantly until we came to stream something on our Sky Q box, and then the internet froze every few minutes.

 

Your solution appears to have worked a charm. There are lots of people complaining about Sky Q conflicting with mesh wi-fi and no one seems to have a solution other than wire your Sky Q box into the main router using an ethernet cable, which in my house is completely impracticle.

 

Early days, but I think I will be eternally grateful to you for your post which, somehow, only had 1 like 😃.

Hi, I can't hard wire as its impractical with distances in house.....but hopefully it works....!!! Weirdly since this last rant at Xmas it's stayed connected now this is a long time connected two months....I hope its not spooked it!??? Let's pray...

Spooked....after 2 months of connection it's now gone down I shouldn't have said anything poltergeist have moved back in...hey ho..

Check your router ch and sky q channels have not changed ie 36 or 40 for router and 44 for sky q. This has happened to me but once changed back  all ok again. Sometimes happens when q box software updates.
