Sky Q box losing signal daily
Hello fellow community:)
I was on here a while back about losing signal on my Q box daily if not twice a day late March/ early April. I had good advice from
from some here and much appreciated for that.We did try and some of the signal problems subsided for awhile. We even had an engineer out from sky to check the box and he gave it a diagnostic test and said it was 100% good to go:) Ok, so based on the information with received from the engineer we were no wiser to the cause of the signal going down daily. Not sure he was either, but we did ask for a new box if it continued and he did say that wouldn't be a issue at all:) I did ask him could the recordings be transferred to the new box, he more or less said that's not possible. Right, here's my question, this is a computer of sorts, why doesn't it have a memory slot for a memory stick to keep all recordings? just like any PC can. We are avid movie collectors of old movies and wouldn't like to lose all those films we keep in our recordings:) Another thing I noticed in the last few days was the fan underneath the Q box was black with soot and the cable (pink head was also black with soot) I have since cleaned both. Unfortunately I'm still doing the daily signal reboot from the wall socket to get Q box working.. Once rebooted I'll get another day trouble free until the same recurs next day ete etc

Sky boxes (Plus or Q) are not designed for long term retention of recordings but more along the lines of record / watch / delete. The engineer was correct. If the box is replaced all recordings are lost although you'd still be able to keep purchased movies from Sky Store.

" doesn't it have a memory slot for a memory stick to keep all recordings?"
Because the owners of the content do not want you to be able to freely copy it for a collection even if there were some encryption scheme to ensure it's only viewable by you.
If you buy a DVD or blu-ray (while you still can), that's different. And those have a lifespan too, albeit pretty long.
soot is odd. Do you have an open fire? It's not just dust?
