Sky Q box 5Ghz signal issue
Hi - is there anyway of reducing the 5GHz signal that is pumped out of the Sky Q TV box? It's interfering with my broadband routers 5Ghz signal for my WiFi
Thanks

Re: Sky Q box 5Ghz signal issue
You can turn it off but you won't be able to use mini's. (Unless on same Ethernet subnet)
Or change the channel of the router. Sky uses 80 MH / ch 36 by default.

Hi @Mueed
If you have no mini boxes and are on 3rd party WiFi (non Sky) then you can turn of the 5 Ghz WiFi in your main Q box. You can do this because the Q box will only connect to the routers 2.4Ghz band..
Go into the Q box hidden menu and turn off 5GHz WiFi.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off the 5 Ghz band. Confirm before exit.

Re: Sky Q box 5Ghz signal issue
Thanks both - basically I want to have my cake and eat it as I want connectivity to the mini but also want the 5Ghz signal reduced. I totally get why Sky has done this as the mini is often on a different floor to the main box (though not in my case)
So the good news is that going into the engineering settings to disable per instruction here actually gives an option to narrow the band of the 5Ghz from 80Mhz to 40Mhz also!
Credit to Sky for giving this option......

Yes, but lowers the bandwidth - hopefully it still works...

Yes but that bandwidth then becomes uncontended. As both boxes are on the same floor hopefully should be fine - but will report back on that.........
Having praised Sky earlier, I do wonder why they couldn't have hidden the SSID - it's a closed mesh after all and took me a while to realise it wasn't a neighbour's broadband WiFi!!!

Re: Sky Q box 5Ghz signal issue
@Mueed did it fox your issues? I'm having dreadful issues with our sky box and other provider broadband 🤦♀️ wondering if it's the same thing

Re: Sky Q box 5Ghz signal issue
It foxed it briefly. But then the settings reset again whenever the box is switched off. In the end I just bought a mesh network router setup to provide WiFi and connected it to the broadband-supplied router
