No, they're not.  All Q boxes are loaned for the duration of the subscription and must be returned if you cancel.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own

  • Appalling by comparison to Sky +. Once my contract is up, I will most likely cancel. Overpriced and overrated.

Re: Sky Q awful to use

I appear to be confused, is this a support website or just for people to moan about their own personal preference?

The former almost always end up incorporating some of the latter. I just ignore them.

What surprises me is numerous posters appear to assume that because Q is new to them, it must be a new platform...

Yes it is, Iv had mine 3 days & am going to consider cancelling the whole package phone broadband too, I was pushed into it too, I only phoned reguarding my bill, so if these boxs are not going on for much longer why didn't they phone ME, not happy you can use reminder either.

The expected remaining lifespan of satellite television in the UK is still longer than the Sky Q two year minimum contract term.

I assume you mean "can't use reminders"?

That one has been done to death on here. Catch up plus the fact everyone has a smartphone in reach 24x7 where they can set a reminder by just asking it kind of mitigates the issue.

Re: Sky Q awful to use

Catch up doesn't mitigate the no reminder issue, because you often have to wait until the next day for the programme to be available.  Rubbish for live sport if you miss the start.

And if using a smartphone is a the way to set reminders, perhaps sky should provide smartphones to all sky q users.

@Richardsky1

It is undoubtedly a design decision which continues to annoy some users, but it's one taken the best part of a decade ago and isn't going to change now.

For context, it's also influenced by the very different topology of the Q platform (where Mini boxes are client devices of the main box) to the previous Sky+ system where each box is an independent receiver with its own tuners.

If they had to provide a smartphone to every Sky Q user who doesn't have one, I imagine it might set them back at least 5 grand.

Agree catchup isn't appropriate for live sport.

Hi @Richardsky1   Why would want to be reminded of one hour of prattle from overpaid punters?
