Re: Sky Q awful to use
Thanks for this, but it won't work on Sky Q. I even bought a Sky Q assessable remote and it's still confusing.
It's not the remote as such, it's the whole menu interface. Especially the recording facility.
I think someone mentioned it on here, but the download/available menu is particularly frustrating. There are 3 sub headings that are confusing as hell. I mean, who thought that would be easier to follow? It's a terrible set up for people with learning and memory difficulties, never mind people who don't suffer such difficulties.
Have I mentioned that I hate it yet? Ha.

Re: Sky Q awful to use
One contributing factor would be that Q is far from a modern system: it was developed more than a decade ago, prior to release in early 2016, and things were done rather differently back then.

Re: Sky Q awful to use
2016 isn't that long ago. Software should be / has always been tested prior to release, with feedback determining the finished product.
To hide most of your available content, by not have an All option for on demand channels, is still something I can't believe got passed.
I sympathise with people who have difficulty using sky Q as well, due to dementia and other conditions....
There's not even the option of simply turning sky Q on to be able to watch the last (probably favorite) channel you were watching the day before. Switching it on just goes to a home screen and stays there. Why didn't sky put a 10 second timer so it backs out with no input? Simple things they just seem to have not thought about or be bothered about to help people.

I'd have thought the answer to that question is obvious. The home page is an advertising hoarding.

Re: Sky Q awful to use
Sky+ is older and a far better product. There is no excuse on how poor Sky Q is.

@opl73 thats your opinion and i get a few people share that but in my opinion Sky Q is a much more superior product in the fact that you can watch iun UHD HDR record up to 6 programmes at one time access your recordingsa from any of your Q boxes
The UI is different but I do prefer it and do understand it's a big change for those changing from Sky+ I would never go back to a Sky + box but that just my opinion
May I ask what it is you find so poor
I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer
Sky Q 2 TB (Silver)Box, 2 Mini boxes since June 2016, all connected by wifi
Sky Broadband Hub/SR203, Sky Ultrafast broadband

The extra features, such as more recordings, are good, yes. However, if you go back a few pages to my first post, you'll understand. Others also concure.

Re: Sky Q awful to use
@opl73I certainly do agree with you
Sky had an opportunity to create a brilliant upgraded piece of kit and unfortunately took way too many short cuts in their design and forgot that people actually use the box !!
it is certainly not user friendly and as a disabled customer - I am disappointed

Re: Sky Q awful to use
- Indeed it is. Of course, Ultra HD is better, and the fact you can record more than 2 programs at a time is great. However, the UI is awful. Awful.

I don't know what this menu is? I only have "Recordings" as a menu that combines things which were downloaded or recorded from live TV, and it has more than 3 sub-menus.

Re: Sky Q awful to use
This is how weird it is.....
The Recordings Continue section has programmes you haven't recorded.
I noticed I've got ITV racing on Stv in it, I've not recorded it, it's waiting to be downloaded. I don't want to download it, how do I delete this tile? I tried downloading it and deleting after, but when I click on the programme tile to download it says. Sorry, this item is no longer available.

hi @Richardsky1
The Recordings - Continue section is notoriously flakey.
You cannot delete any entries directly from this section - it is just pointers to elsewhere.
Not too sure how it would include a programme not related to something you have recorded however.
The particular problem you report can involve a couple of known quirks (aka bugs) where the Continue section shows the next episode to be watched after you complete or are very near the end of an episode (cause 1) & thus prompts you to download an episode you have not yet seen.
Then this is combined with something that happens for some ITV programmes where the next episode is not yet available to download (because it has not yet been shown on live ITV) BUT STV (in Scotland) make all episodes (including those not yet aired) available so the SKY box continue section thinks the episode is available although it isn't for ITV region viewers !
(hope that makes some sense)
Some entries in the continue section can be cleared by making sure you delete older episodes and then going into Recordings - Manage - deleted & select delete forever
This of course only works for those you have watched etc. so you may be left with other rogue entries
Our advice is to only ever use the Continue Section when you KNOW the entry is the one you want (episode number etc) - otherwise this section is best avoided.
Edit : P.S. Similar flakey behaviour can be seen in the buttons above episodes in the Recodings - Most Recent Section -where again we recommend great caution - I suggest always scrolling down to the epdisode thumbnail and buttons below
Unfortunately SKY don't seem to have 'heard' our criticism of this section or felt the need to make sure it works 100%

Re: Sky Q awful to use
Do you honestly expect Sky to listen or even care about a complaint about an out of date system - that is no longer being produced ?
They did not listen to customers when it was new - so not now.
For me - my issue is with the lack of reminders - I know that this has been raised numerous times in the past and the excuse has always been "its a streaming service" but this is not a valid reason - for people who watch live TV, It is a real loss.
