Re: Sky Q awful to use
I've just sky q installed - is absolutely terrible the lack of planner it's just useless instructions. The sky cube box is extremely difficult and I can't see the symbols on it. Absolutely terrible. I've got to get the Sky Plus back it's just not worth having this Sky cues absolutely diabolically (removed), do yourself a favour do not use it

@grant.borner it does take some people time to adjust to the new layout the planner in the sky+ box is replaced by recordings

Re: Sky Q awful to use
Later stages... at least it's dying!! Thank god for that! I hope Sky learned their lesson through the launch (removed), unfortunately to the expense of their customers (us). User interface is very poor to say the least. I miss my Sky Plus Hd ...,

Re: Sky Q awful to use
It really is a change when moving from something like Sky+ which I didn't even realise was still being used. Give it time to settle in, you'll soon get used to it. 😊

Re: Sky Q awful to use
Sky Q was launched in early 2016, and is now in use by the vast majority of Sky satellite customers.
Sky+ HD hardware hasn't been manufactured since 2015: new subscriptions haven't been available for years.

Re: Sky Q awful to use
As a UX consultant, I work with software developers and designers to create good software "user experience" and SkyQ stinks of designer-led development. Yes, the interface looks pretty but the complete lack of consistency on how things work is just painful.
To put the 'Home' button in the same location as the 'Back' button was in the old Sky remote - Genius! Now my muscle memory takes me back to the home page when I just wanted to go back. So now we just press 'left' to go back... execpt when it doesn't. There's an 'Exit' button that sometimes goes back, but other times just closes SkyGuide altogther. Not to mention the criminal underuse of the '...' button which opens a sidebar with Beehive Bedlam, Weather, and a bunch of other pretty much useless 'apps'. (Why can't this be a far more useful list of user-defined shortcuts?)
For me thought, the worst dropped feature is the ability to open the guide on the channel you are viewing. If I'm guide surfing and view a channel then I want to go back to the guide I have to potentially scroll down pages to get to where I was. I know there are other options, but sometime the simplist is the best!

If only it was... Pressing select pops up a banner at the bottom where you can see individual channels.Like I said, I know there are other options but what I miss is the ability to simply press 'Back up' which took you back to the full channel list with your current channel at the top.

Re: Sky Q awful to use
I'd suggest the difference is that Sky+ was created as a broadcast television platform which later gained the ability to do some other stuff, while Q was designed a decade and a half later as an online access device that happens to have an EPG.

Your muscle memory soon goes - I had that when switching.
But I spend most of my time actually watching programmes and the UI is a means to an end.

Re: Sky Q awful to use
Is Sky stream and Sky Glass any different in terms of operating systems ?
ie) Have Sky learnt from their Q mistakes ?
Such as not having a "reminder" (unforgiveable !)

Re: Sky Q awful to use
And I am sure that we are not alone in losing the signal as soon as a cloud dares to go between the satellite and dish ?
I am convinced that this is down to the reduced size of the dishes (lower gain) - compared to original sky dishes (of 2000) which were at least twice the area (and thus 4 times gain) !!
(gain is a square of the area)

It's an entirely different (Comcast) OS, GUI and server platform, so yes

Reminders are even more obsolete on Glass/Stream than on Q, so no, they are not there.
