Sky Q and 2 wifi boxes

Hi.

We currently have Sky+ and multiroom, but thinking of moving to Sky Q, or even Sky stream.

How does Sky Q link to the multiroom boxes? Is it using your wifi, or do the boxes emit their own to connect them up?

We currently have an annexe, which is serviced though a different wifi router. Both routers are 4g routers, as the broadband is practically onn existent.

The annexe currently has a SKy+ multi room box in it.

The issue is that we have 2 wifi routers, with one looking after the main house, and the other looking after the annexe. Both use (their own) BT Whole Hub disc systems, to get the wifi around the house, which is rather long and thin.

Will Sky Q work? Firstly because are the multiroom boxes use their own linking system, as I dont think it will travel across the house, and secondly because if it connects to your own wifi to stream, the annexe is on its own wifi, so will this mean the boxes in the annexe wont work?

By default the main and mini boxes connect using their own 5GHz WiFi - which can be problematic.  Sky do provide extenders if necessary.

However, if you have a WH setup then that can work but only if you connect the Q boxes to the disc via Ethernet.  (I have this setup)   They will not hold a connection wirelessly.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own

hi @k81527

I am not sure that SKY Q would work in your set up.

When your internet/wifi is not SKY then the minis will use a (closed) wifi network generated by the main SKY Q box & as @PandJ2020 says SKY will offer boosters but even these generally would not allow the signal to get to the annexe (unless it is very close)

They can be connected to each other via ethernet but must be on the same network

BTW you may be aware of other aspects of SKY Q compared with SKY HD but if not please see some notes I have put together (see the points re recordings)

SKY HD to SKY Q

SKY Stream may be an alternative but it does need decent internet speed
