Sky Q TV box for no extra cost letter

I've received a letter offering Sky Q TV box at no extra cost, however when I call the number provided, an automated voice is asking for my account password, mother's maiden name and other personal information.  I'm just wondering is this is a scam...!?

Hi @Vicky24 There is a promotion ongoing at the moment, so not a scam letter.

I presume that you have SKY+ if you are thinking of taking up the offer, I would suggest you find out the differences between the two platforms before you commit to a change.

That does seem a very odd way for them to go about it. No way I would tell an unverified system my mother's maiden name since so many banks etc still use it as an identity token.

@Vicky24

The number in that letter is apparently a dedicated number for this offer. Have a look at this to compare Sky+ to Sky Q kindly put together by @nigea99

Fair comment @Quoman7 scammers will also know about these promotions

When I've rung Sky I've never had to give out that much sensitive information.

So in my honest opinion I'm seeing a red flag is it a Sky number the OP is actually calling

(removed).  I can't find the number on the sky website, so that's another reason for my query.

Fair comment @Daniel0210 but @Vicky24 hasn't mentioned the number it could be an entirely different number for the dedicated number for the offer you mention

@Vicky24

The number you've just posted (which has been removed as Sky don't allow full phone numbers to be displayed) is the same number we have been advised on a closed forum is the dedicated number for this offer.

You have to give your password to the automated system every time you call Sky now. It's been like that for a while.

Password ok (we all use unique passwords don't we people?!). And when you call the known number ok.

New number from a letter out of the blue and Mother's maiden name?
