Sky Q Mini Box in Garden Man Cave
I have a Sky Q mini box in my kitchen which is located at the back of my house. I want to install a Sky Q mini box in my garage man cave at the back of the garden. Currently the mini box in the garage can't detect the main Sky Q HDR hub.
Can I run an Ethernet from the kitchen Sky Q mini box to the mini box in the garage and set it up this way?
My internet supplier is BT.

Re: Sky Q Mini Box in Garden Man Cave
No but you can run it from a powerline connection in the house if the router isn't near enough to connect directly.

Re: Sky Q Mini Box in Garden Man Cave
Thanks,
I already have a Powerline adaptor set up with a receiver in my attic for the CCTV. I should be able to buy another receiver and plug this into the garage which is on the same circuit as the house. I've actually had one in the garage before just for normal internet and it worked.

Yep
Your Sky Q box will want to form a mesh with both minis and that might not work with mixed physical layers so it's possible your existing mini might need to switch over to an ethernet or powerline connection to the router as well.

Re: Sky Q Mini Box in Garden Man Cave
The Sky engineer who installed my HDR box when switching over from UHD Q told me I could just run an Ethernet from the mini box in the kitchen to a mini.box in the garage but it's sounding like this was an inaccurate suggestion.

Hmm
it's worth a try. You can connect them via wifi (rather than both direct over wifi to the Q) so maybe that has the same effect. Not seen anyone on here try it so would be interesting.

hi @Domhow
If the first mini has good connectivity I cannot see why you could not run an Ethernet cable from it to your garage mini.
Provided you turn off the WiFi on the garage mini then it should work.
When boxes are connected by Ethernet you can then switch off WiFi on that box (the garage mini)
first carry out a Network reset on the garage with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in mini box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the mini to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
As soon as it connects go into the mini box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

Q boxes will act as a connectivity bridge when connected by Ethernet
