Sky Q Hard Disk Failure then Recovery - Keep or use Replacement?

Hi, My Sky Q Box came up wih the Hard Disk failure messages a few days ago so I tried the hard disk reset and factory reset, both to no avail.

I ordered a replacement but this morning everything worked once again and all my recordings were there!

So my question is, is it worth sticking with it so I keep my recordings or is it better to go with the new one as it's likely to fail again soon?

I ordered the larger disk size when I originally got the Sky Q, there wasnt an option for this when I ordered the new one. Are they all the larger size now?

Does the old one go back? Could I keep the new one as a spare for when it does fail completely?

Hi @Jinxy999 if the hard drive reset and factory reset had worked your recordings wouldn't be still there.

So the box is faulty and needs replacing as it could happen again but the choice is yours.

You can't keep both as the courier needs to take the faulty box back

Don't forget to remove the viewing card as you'll need it for the replacement box.

The default main Q box since late 2019 has been the 1TB UHD HDR model: this is the only one available if ordering online.

2TB units may or may not be available, and these may be refurbished earlier models rather than new boxes.

Re: Sky Q Hard Disk Failure then Recovery - Keep or use Replacement?

I've seen this elsewhere on this forum:

With a Sky Q 1TB box, you can record three programmes at the same time whilst watching another.
With a Sky Q 2TB and Sky Q 1TB UHD box, you can record up to six programmes while watching live TV.

I really dont want to have a reduction in the number of programmes I can record or lose UHD capability. Are the standard boxes UHD?

It seems a poor deal to have paid extra for 1 2TB when I got it, to get a 1TB replacement.

They send out a new one via courier and he takes the old one back so you are expected to change it over.

Should be really straightforward but there was a problem when I plugged the new one in. It had 'no satellite signal' on all but the first four channels but I worked out that one of the satellite leads had broken internally. What was strange was the the signal quality and strength were the same before and after me fixing this. But all working now.
