I have a Sky Q box that is just over a year old. For the past few months it occasionally does not want to switch on either by using the Power or Home button on the remote despite the Sky box having a green light on. The only way to get it to work again is by turning off the mains and waiting for the tiresome reboot sequence to complete.
The Sky remote controls the TV and works fine. I have changed the batteries in the remote and the red light lights up on the remote when I test it. Nothing seems to solve the issue other than a reboot.
A few days ago during a period when the Sky box would not start I momentarily touched the remote’s power button and the Sky box came on for a few seconds and then went off. This seems to work for a few seconds every time. I have read lots of posts about SKY Q issues and very few of them seem to have the same issue where the green light is showing on the Sky Q box and the remote appears to be working but the box is unresponsive. I have updated the software but no change. Once I reboot it’s fine for either a few days or sometimes only a few hours. I read that even people with replaced Sky Q boxes can still have this trouble.
It isn’t too difficult for me to reboot the Sky box but my wife is disabled and it is much more of an issue for her. I am out of contract and I am considering ditching Sky for my TV, broadband and phone because of this… but would any other computerised box be any more reliable I wonder.
Does anyone have an answer to this problem please?

If you haven't already try a Reset Settings in the Q box hidden menu. It may help.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Only Carry out the first Reset (Reset Settings) as the other two will wipe all recordings.
After the Reset you will have to re pair your Bluetooth remote If you use one.
If you cannot switch the Q box on with the remote after the Reset press the Standby button (Amber led) on the front of the box.
To re pair the remote press 1 & 3 together on the remote and follow onscreen instructions to re pair.
Make sure that you are pointing the remote at the Q box when you press 1 & 3 together.
Resetting the settings will also reset:
Audio visual settings, such as picture resolution and HDMI control
Settings changed within the hidden engineer menu, include LNB type. If on a communal dish you need to reset the LNB to SCR in the hidden menu. After changing the LNB type you need to reboot the Q box.

@oldfellaThanks, I have read that but haven't tried it. I will give it a go the next time it decides not to work. I was a bit nervous about pairing the remote again after doing it but it looks straightforward.
