Sky Q Box - Self replacement of failed HDD?

Hi all,

Long story short, but the HDD has failed in my Sky Q 2TB box. I've jumped through Sky's hoops of ordering a replacement box for DPD to swap at the door, but Sky sent a really bad refurb that was scratched all along the top so we refused delivery. It looks like DPD have lost this on the way back to Sky and the rather robotic phone and live chat handlers at Sky are refusing to resend another box until the one DPD appear to have lost is received by them...

So as I'm a bit stuck and Sky aren't helping, I've taken a look inside my Sky Q box and sourced a like-for-like 2TB 3.5" HDD drive from Amazon with a matching part number which I'm considering buying as I'm missing out on some cracking TV at the moment.

I have found a YouTube video of someone who has replaced their own HDD and it has worked, but there aren't loads of videos of sucess stories on YouTube which has me sceptical if the box will simply rebuild with a replacement HDD or if Sky have put something clever in place to prevent people doing this.

So I'm looking for sucess stories from anyone who knows this will work please.

hi @BlackCat

SKY Q boxes are always owned by SKY & thus we would not recommend any such action.

Best to wait to see whether their systems register the box returned

Yeah, my plan is to actually invoice Sky for fixing their box 😀

Hi @BlackCat

The terms and Conditions you agreed to when you subscribed to Sky state that Q boxes are not to be tampered with or disassembled .
