I contacted Samsung again and the lady took control of my tv remotely and altered some settings she then played a clip from their end and it was perfect - so I'm more confused now than before - is it the sky box or is it Samsung ? She also looked at my tv picture through the camera on my phone and she said from her prospective it looked fine - so maybe it's me that needs to adjust maybe the older picture settings I've been watching are fake and enhanced and this one 10bit is correct ? Thanks for all the comments
@wrdsimon were you able to tell if the clip was HLG HDR ?
Other versions of HDR do not have the same dimming effect
Also Manufacturers clips are more than likely 'tuned' to their TVs .

I couldn't tell it's all smoke and mirrors I suppose - Samsung or sky wont admit the fault - I'm still not sure why Samsung said that the sky signal been at 70 was the issue they said it should be 100 and it would work fine ?

I suspect a case of ignorance and 'blame the other party'
it is well documented that any TV with a peak brightness of less than 600 nits aka cd/m2 (maybe 500 at a push) is likely to stuggle with HLG HDR - the reviews I could find indicate it has a peak brightness towards 300 - 320

thanks for your comments I didn't even know what a nit was before all this - thanks for all the feedback

People often don't know things they should.
Try the netflix or amazon prime video apps on the sky box. I think those use hdr10. See if they work like her demo clip. I think bbc and sky sports and cinema stuff is all HLG.
