Well I just rang Sky to tell them I wanted my faulty 2TB Sky Q box replacing with a HDR compatible box and was told it'd cost £99.

However, they could send an engineer out to fix my existing box for free, which I'm sure will result in the engineer replacing the box.

It'll be interesting to see if the replacement is HDR compatible.

Official policy is to replace on a like for like basis so don;t raise your hopes too high

@boxinghris the only exception to this would be if the engineer doesnt have another box on board their van that is the same as yours ie a 2TB non HDR box

Re: Sky Q 2Tb box HDR compatible?

Yes that's what I posted earlier so a HDR box would be an unexpected bonus if it happened.

There's always the chance they've run out of non-HDR boxes, or that they're so old/prone to developing faults that it's more cost effective to just replace with newer HDR boxes.

I do still expect a non-HDR box...😉

How many of those are still in circulation though?

@Chodley suppose it depends on how many were introduced between feb 2016 when Q became available and around November 2017 wnen the V2 box was released. I got my V2 trial box in around October 2017.

Re: Sky Q 2Tb box HDR compatible?

I'm hoping very few.

Those that are in circulation will be vey old and prone to problems, so surely it's more cost effective to just replace with the most modern boxes to reduce the need for more visits by the engineer.

Sky are pushing their Sky Glass and Sky Stream as they want to eliminate the need for any engineers at all, so fingers crossed.

And the percentage of those that have now been melted down 🙂

@boxinghris lets hope so although the newest boxes the V3 are from 2019 themselves so even now they are comining up for 5 year old technology 😁

Re: Sky Q 2Tb box HDR compatible?

Update:

Sky engineer called today to 'repair' the old 2TB Sky Q box and as expected replaced it.

Good news is it's HDR compatible so happy days. 👍
