Re: Sky F1 UHD / HDR feed stutter

Hi, Just to confirm what you are saying, a 4K firestick with BBC iPlayer app installed will playback UHD HDR content at 50Hz in HLG straight into the TV's HDMI port?

If so I have got to borrow or even buy one because this will prove the issue is within the TV or not.

Thanks

Re: Sky F1 UHD / HDR feed stutter

1) This is no problem.
2) No problem with using the BBC app on the TV itself. When I use BBC iPlayer app. This is at 25 HRTZ and so it doesn't have a problem at all. Looks really nice.

3) I have an Xbox Series X attached and it's absolutely fine in Dolby Vision, also playing Blu Ray or just any app. It's fine.
4) As described by @jezzer42  it's any HDR content. I was watching Game of Thrones no problem before Christmas but then had the problem at the start of the New Year.

I too ran all ports especially HDMI 1 which is the the 120Hz port but it did the same. I don't really want to use this either as my Xbox is in there pulling 120.

I played with every setting going and it's the same. Also as described, you could start a program like Day of the Jackel, and it'll do it over and over but not in the same bit. So very hard to replicate.

Yes you can turn HDR off on the HDMI mode or change Sky to 8 bit but defeats the object when it had worked before.

Yes, that's correct. Make sure you select a show which is in UHD and has the UHD label on the thumbnail on the iPlayer app. Something like the current series of Doctor Who is a good one to try. It has HLG HDR, the same as what Sky use, and plays at 50Hz.

This will prove that it's a firmware or OS issue on the TV if you get the same kind of stuttering as you get on Sky, because all of Sky's UHD HLG HDR content is also at 50Hz.

Oh and to add, I too cannot get the software update which is dated 29/04 for the TV. I tried again earlier and nothing.

Re: Sky F1 UHD / HDR feed stutter

I just got a Panasonic Z5595A and am having the same screen judder issues mentioned here. Broadband speed is well above requirements and it is only an issue with Sky Sports UHD. I do not have the same problems with Netflix. Will contact Panasonic as suggested.

Re: Sky F1 UHD / HDR feed stutter

Hi Matt_C

Are you using Sky Q?

Have you tried watching "The Last of Us" in UHD HDR? From Sky Atlantic. Or any UHD HDR movie from Sky Movies?

if not, please give it a go and let me know if you have any problems.

I Have managed to borrow a 4K ROKU Stick, plugged it into the HDMI lead that that goes from the SKY Q box to the TV using a HDMI to HDMI coupler (I wanted to use the HDMI cable as well rather than plugging the stick straight into the TV, to rule out the cable as well.) and the results raise a few more questions.

Playing BBC iPlayer UHD HDR episodes of "Dr Who", "The Jetty" and "This City is Ours" all played without a single problem, no stutter or anything. Settings - Info on the TV, while these were playing, reported that the TV was receiving 2160P HLG 50HZ. Exactly the same as the Sky Q box when playing HDR content.

Therefore
1- Is this specifically a Sky Q issue?
2- Why did this only start after a recent Firmware update on the TV?
3- Why do other Panasonic TV's e.g. my own GZ950 play Sky Q HDR content perfectly without fault?
4- Does Sky Stream output in the same HDR format and are these users experiencing this problem on Panasonics Latest OLEDs? (Specifically the Z85A, Z90A and Z95A models)

More questions than answers!

Please do, either by phone or through  Panasonic Support web chat. The more people that raise the issue the better.

Interesting. So it does seem to be Sky Q specific if the HLG from iPlayer on the Roku is working fine...

Sky Stream pucks do output the same 2160P HLG 50Hz for Sky's HDR content.
Only other thing to rule out might be the type of Q box. It sounds like you have a v2 model if it doesn't have UHD on its iPlayer app. You could possibly request a swap to a newer v3 model which can do UHD HLG on its iPlayer app and see if that makes any difference?

Your right, and thanks for your help, it increasingly does appear to be an incompatibility between the Sky Q Box (certainly my version) and this Specific range of Panasonic TV's. This then begs the question where does the fault lie and who takes responsibility for fixing it?

My previous questions still stand -

2- Why did this only start after a recent Firmware update on the TV?
3- Why do other Panasonic TV's e.g. my own GZ950 play Sky Q HDR content perfectly without fault?
Additionally - If I had bought an LG G4 or Samsung S95 TV would I have this problem? Probably not.

So I am going to let Panasonic get back to me on this first before contacting SKY.

If other posters on this thread could please check the version of Sky Q box they have and report back, that would be a great help.

It would also be interesting to know if anyone with a Panasonic LCD TV Model numbers TV-xxW90AEB or TV-xxW95AEB  is also having this stutter issue with Sky Q HDR Content, as they use the same firmware as the OLED models.

Re: Sky F1 UHD / HDR feed stutter

@jezzer42 yes question 2 does very much stand as a big mystery. Also yes who will fix it?

I have the 32B108. If that's any help to those asking?

If memory serves me correct, that's a v2 box. If it has an external power brick then it's definitely a v2.

The v3 boxes start with 32B2 and don't have a power brick.

Re: Sky F1 UHD / HDR feed stutter

@BenJoBanjo yes that is the power brick. I read those without a brick didn't have HDR. However the power brick does?

No, the newer v3 boxes (32B2) have HDR and an internal power supply without a brick. They're also slightly quicker than the v2 boxes and have the UHD/HDR version of the iPlayer app.

I had a v2 box originally but it had a noisy hard drive. Sky swapped it for a v3 and it was quieter, a little quicker and perhaps a tad sharper in terms of the picture quality. Both were UHD HDR capable. It's only the older v1 boxes without a power brick which didn't have HDR.

I think the v3 boxes might be harder to come by now as Sky have effectively stopped making new Q boxes as far as I know. You can try and ask for a specific box type as a replacement but it's usually pot luck. Sky advisers are usually clueless on the differences between them.
