Hi, I returned to sky Q last week after cancelling back in August. I have just realised that they have sent me a 1TB box when I really need a 2tb box as I need to connect two minis at the same time. I believe the 1TB only allows 1 mini box at a time. I was about to order a second mini box when I realised the problem. Will they swap my 1TB for a 2TB? (I've only had it a week) thank you

You can have a maximum of 4 mini boxes loaned to you by Sky. You can watch Sky content on two minis and the main box at the same time. You may be able to use a 3rd mini box at the same time if you’re using it for one of the apps such as Netflix.
All 2TBs and the UHD/HDR 1TB permit two mini boxes. Each mini box which is loaned to you may be subject to a one off upfront charge but you only need one Sky Q monthly Multiscreen subscription.

The 1TB UHD/HDR box, which permits two Mini boxes in simultaneous use, has been the default hardware since late 2019. The restriction you refer to is applicable to the non-UHD 1TB dating from the first launch of Q in early 2016.
It has been known for those older 1TB units to be shipped by mistake, though, or where the household doesn't have a UHD subscription.
To check which Sky box you have:
Hardware version number | Type of Sky box | UHD-capable? | HDR-capable? |
---|---|---|---|
32B0xx | Sky Q 2TB | Yes | No |
32B1xx | Sky Q 2TB | Yes | Yes |
32B2XX | Sky Q 1TB UHD or Sky Q 2TB* | Yes | Yes |
32Cxx | Sky Q 1TB | No | No |

Hi, I have checked and I have a number starting 32C009 which looks like it is a pre 2020 box? Does this mean that box only allows 1 mini?

That's correct. As I mentioned above, it's not unknown for that rather vintage model to be shipped where the household doesn't have a UHD subscription (or just in error)

Ok thank you.
would I just need to call them to try get a newer box?
I want a 2nd mini at the same time, they sent me one as part of me returning and taking out multi room. No point getting a 2nd mini if I can't use them both at the same time.

Yes: they'll probably want to charge a fee, so I'd suggest you negotiate based on the age of that hardware, its lack of HDR support and your intended Mini use.

I edited the table to remove the Mini, as that wasn't the subject of the original post.

I found Timmy's reply about disc size very helpful. My hardware version is 32B206, but the table shows that it could be 1TB or 2TB with an asterisk at the end. I wasn't sure what the asterisk refers to so still not sure what size my disc is. Could anybody enlighten me?

Hi @DaiapGymru The following link explains, including how to find if you have a 1TB or 2TB box.

Got it thanks MQ, it's a 1TB box. Who'd have thought you'd find this under the music section?!
