Re: Switching from SKY + / SKY HD to SKY Q - some points to note

OK, so the plan for the Q box went a bit awry for a while, in that for some reason, we couldn't get the multiswitch to play with the Triax TMDS 42 C that I got to give me DSCR outputs, the multiswitch is a Opticum RED OMS 516 Pro, but the Triax is not giving a valid output when connected to it,  but I don't know why at the moment, in that to test things out, we took the Quattro LNB feeds off the Multiswitch, and put them onto the inputs of the Triax, and that gave me a DSCR output that the Q box is happily working on using just one of the two downleads that we were using with the plus box, so it's in SCR mode, which I wasn't expecting, but it's happy, and working, so now, I have to try and work out why the multiswitch can't give the TMDS the inputs it needs, my understanding was that if the TMDS was connected to 4 outputs of the multiswitch, which we tried, it should set them up as the HH, HL VH and VL signals that the device needs, which it then passes through to the Q box.

The engineer also had a Unitron cdss-422 in the van, which is effectively the same concept, but that also didn't want to work, which was why we tried putting the LNB directly on the Triax, and that gave us a working Sky Q, at which point, the engineer did a quick check to make sure that the mini boxes were also working, and went to his next install, which I can understand, as the 2 mini boxes will give us Sky on the other TV's, but I'd like to get the rest of the system back in working order, as there have been times when we've used the sat direct to the TV for things like channels that are not on Sky but are free to air on Astra, or Saorview terrestrial feed to overcome scheduling conflicts, though the Q box may overcome that now, as we're able to record more.

So, anyone got any ideas where I've gone wrong, I thought I'd done my homework on this, unless there's an issue with the multiswitch that I wasn't aware of.

Thanks

Steve

@Irish-Steveas you can see I have moved your post onto it's own separate discussion as I think it is rather specific

Unfortunately this is beyond my expertise but I will tag our kind expert @Godfrey who may be able to give some advice

@Irish-Steve   I have not been able to discover from looking at its specification parameters why your Opticum RED OMS 516 Pro multiswitch would not behave like any other 'Legacy' multiswitch when connected to either the Unitron dCSS-422 Sky Q Plug-In adaptor or your Triax TMDS 42 C.

With only one output from your Triax TMDS 42 C being required to feed your Sky Q receiver you will have three outputs left which can feed 'legacy' satellite receivers that expect to be fed from a Universal LNB.

If you still wanted to have a 16 port multiswitch then a Whyte Series D 16 Way dSCR Multiswitch should provide an easy replacement for your Opticum device, at a price, if you fail to discover what is actually the problem with your existing multiswitch.

Can you confirm that your Sky Q receiver had been configured to be using SCR LNB mode during the period when it originally failed to work when the Triax TMDS 42 C was being fed from the Opticum multiswitch.

Godfrey.

Re: SKY Q with Triax TMDS 42 C

Yes, I can  confirm that the Q box was and still is set to SCR, and that's how it's working now, with apparently no issues so far, I am going to check in the morning to make absolutely sure that all 4 of the link cables from the multiswitch to the DSCR device are good, and not something stupid like a short on the cable, they were new and made in a bit of a rush due to problems with the Sky broadband upgrade yesterday taking a lot longer to do than I'd anticipated, in hindsight, I should have changed the Hub SSID to match my old settings, a check earlier showed 17 devices connected, and a fair few of them needed to be reconfigured after the change, and it got messy with some of them, as I also had to put the old hub on to a PC without connecting it to get the firewall settings in order to replicate them on the new fibre hub, the alarm needed some specific ports open and a service adding to enable communication.
