SKY Q keeps dropping wifi signal on Virgin Hub

SKY Q keeps dropping the Virgin WiFi connection.

Watching the TV last night and must have done it 8 times in 30 mins then just reconnects after maybe 15 seconds.

Sometimes it just stutters then starts again.

I have a 1GB connection and it is stable,

Any ideas?

Thanks

You have a 1Gb connection, not 1GB 😉

Yes this is very common. At best doing a network reset in the Q settings might stabilise it for a while

changing wifi channels can help, The Q wants to use channel 36 on 5GHz to talk to the minis and conflicting with that on your own wifi can cause issues.

ultimately you would get a much better experience with either ethernet or powerline adapters. Or hard-wiring into a wifi mesh node, if you have a mesh, has worked for some including me.

Re: SKY Q keeps dropping wifi signal on Virgin Hub

I have had the issue with my Sky Q box ever  since I switched over to EE BB from Sky.

I scoured through various online forums but without much success.

I do think I have now found a stable solution that works.

Caveat - I have an EE SmartHub Wifi Hub

Hopefully this would work with your Virgin BB if your router supports it.

Go to Hub Manager typing this in your web browser https://192.168.1.254

Enter the admin password supplied with the Hub

On the Hub Dashboard screen, select Wireless => Change Settings (on the top of the screen)

You shall now see a screen with Main and Compatible WiFi as toggle options

Select Compatible WiFi, turn it to ON

The Network name should automatically have a -COMP at the end

I kept Security setting as WPA2-Personal

Security Password is upto you, I kept the same password as the Main WiFi

WPS is set to ON

I enabled the 2.4 GHz channel only

Keep the the 5 GHz channel disabled

Click on Save and return to the Dashboard screen

Now go to the Settings => Network Connection => Network Setup on your Sky Q box

Select the Wireless netwok with the -COMP at the end & enter the password

Once connected , you should be good to go.

Note - I did not change any settings on the Sky Q box by enabling the secret menu pressing 001 when on the Settings menu

Re: SKY Q keeps dropping wifi signal on Virgin Hub

Hi,

Thanks for the information. I have reset the hub quite a few times. I have disabled 2.4Ghz on the sky q box and it seems to be stable for the minute.

Thanks

Oh really? That's very interesting because the Q isn't supposed to be able to connect to 3rd party routers over 5GHz. Intrigue!
