SKY Q intermittent freezing and poor picture quality
My brother in law is having issues with his Sky Q mini box whereby the picture intermittently freezes and the picture quality on some of the Sky Tv channels (Sky sports) is awful and highly pixelated they have full fibre (900mb) BT broadband so internet speed shouldn’t be a concern.
The Sky Q mini box in question is in the living room right next to (but not plugged into) the BT router. There is also a Sky Q booster box plugged into his router.
The main Sky Q box is in an adjacent room room (actually a utility room with two walls between the boxes) and is connected to the BT network via Wifi, I assume it’s there because that’s where the satellite cables come into the house so it can’t easily be moved.
I understand from my reading that SKY Q forms its own mesh network that the mini box will be connecting to the main box so I suspect the issues being experienced are to do with the signal strength of the mesh network.
The thing I’m unclear on is the positioning of the sky booster box which I understand acts as another node in the mesh network. If that is the case then I suspect that moving this booster to be somewhere between the mini box and the main box would be more effective than the current set up of having the booster right next to the mini box?
Before I start tinkering I was hoping someone could validate my thinking..I'd be grateful for any thoughts/feedback.

Re: SKY Q intermittent freezing and poor picture quality
If this is on Sky Q then internet speed has nothing to do with it (other than for Sky Sports+ which is streaming based)
sounds like a weak wifi issue between the mini and main Q box if it is only happening on the mini.
You are right about the Q booster. Having it next to the mini is pointless.

Re: SKY Q intermittent freezing and poor picture quality
Yeah id realised that Sky sports must be internet based rather than coming via the dish given how crappy the signal is on those channels.
so you think it's worth a **bleep** moving the booster somewhere between the main Q box and the mini?

hi @bilbo84
Boosters should be placed approx half way (or a bit either way).
There is no point in having a booster close to either the main or mini box - they don't actually boost they just relay so if it is next to the mini it is only getting & relaying the signal that the mini gets

Re: SKY Q intermittent freezing and poor picture quality
Yep I'd assumed that were the case thanks for confirming! Unfortunately the booster box was installed ages ago and doesn't have any set up instructions. Does this just connect to the BT hub via WPS or such like? Or is there some other way of setting it up?

hi @bilbo84
If it is a BT booster it is of no use - the SKY Boxes connect using their own wifi, so it needs to be a SKY Q booster

Sky Q Booster specifically.
and Sky Sports+ specifically. Normal Sky Sports channels come through the dish.
It does have setup instructions

I've replied to your thread in the avforums with instructions on how to setup the booster. It shouldn't need it if already setup though.
