Response from Sky Viewer Relations:
Thanks for your email regarding Super League matches on the new Sky Sports + App.
I am sorry that you feel we are ruining your viewing enjoyment of Super League games, as this is never our intention. This is a new venture for Sky and the SS+ App now brings much more coverage to our viewers via broadband streams. However, you do require Sky Q / Sky Glass or Stream and broadband to access the Sky Sports + App, as well as the complete sports subscription.

Despite Rugby League matches now being streamed on the new Sky Sports + App, we still provide coverage over on Sky Sports Action (Sky channel 408) There is no recording feature available on the Sky Sports + app itself, you will however be able to do this on the linear channel - I have included our TV schedules website for your convenience:
https://www.skysports.com/watch/rugby-league-on-sky
The Sky Sports Catch-Up section (access via the Sky Home Page) also provides highlights of Rugby League and NRL fixtures.
We always appreciate feedback from our viewers. These have been logged and passed to Sky Sports Team for their awareness and thanks again for taking the time for writing to us.
Kind regards
So lots of guff about Sports+ which completely misses the point of my complaint and then something nice and vague about taking my feedback on board... Doesn't sound as if anything is going to change any time soon, so time to investigate SuperLeague+ subscription and binning off Sky...

Has anybody else noted how three Rugby League matches will be shown on Sky Sports Action 17/8/2024 whilst the PL Matches played 17/8/2024 are behind the 3pm football blackout apart from the match from 5:30pm
You have heard of the 3pm football blackout @OldGrumpy

Yes! But that's THE MAGIC WEEKEND where all the teams play at the same venue.
Wait and check the listings for the following weekend where no doubt it will revert to just a couple of games on the main channel.

Wasn't it announced back when Sky/Super League reached a new deal that Sky would show two matches per week on normal Sky Sports, with the rest available on streaming? (With all matches temporarily shown on Sky Sports until the streaming service launched).

That's not detailed in the story on skysports.com
" As part of the deal, Sky Sports will show all six matches in each Super League round live, totalling around 170 games each year across Sky Sports channels and platforms "
which is wording that frankly contains quite a lot of wriggle-room...

One of the biggest issues with this, I think, is the fact that the change has happened part-way through the season - if the intention was always to show 2 games a week and stream the rest, but with Sports+ not operational until now, putting all 6 games on linear channels until that point, then it really should have been made clearer that that was the situation - as @TimmyBGood points out the wording about showing all games live is deliberately vague... It's not unreasonable to assume that this claim alongside all 6 games being shown on linear channels for over half the season means that this will be the case for the whole season...
Presumably the launch of Sports+ was timed to coincide with the start of the football season, but why could we not have had the rest of the Super League season running on linear channels, with an announcement that things would change to partial streaming-only next year?
It's either completely thoughtless or completely deliberate and looking at the responses people have got from Viewer Relations, it would seem to be the latter...

Yes totally agree ..not only do we like to watch the match but also the run up such as news and as you said after the game the interviews with the coaches or players ...This is totally wrong and I hope someone at sky reads all these comments and take in board and do something about it pretty quick. It's not just us rugby league fans but football fans as well. Straight into kick off and ending as soon as whistle blows..what bloody use is that. And also stop putting up scores from others on screen as well .

Fair comment @OldGrumpy you get to watch Rugby League games scheduled at 3pm regardless of the main channel or streamed Again PL fans are in the same boat as you but our 3pm Saturday matches are not televised or streamed live via SkySports+

@Barry261 it's been known since the service launched that the only games recordable are those on the linear channels
the games behind the red button cannot be recorded

So now we have had a couple of weeks to see how it pans out for SkyQ RL watchers. It is as bad as first feared! The removal of choice is complete!
If someone had set out with the specific attempt to make it worse, they could hardly have done better.
You now are forced to choose which RL match you want to watch (with the facility to record only 2 'marquee' matches on SkyQ) when matches are played / streamed simultaneously. If you have something on when your team is shown on +, then tough luck - you can watch circa six minutes of it later.
There are now no re-runs, on SkyQ, of the matches streamed on Sport+, only a few minutes 'highlights' on Sports+. It seems that they ended Sky Q re-runs of Sports+ matches after Magic Weekend.
You now have to choose the match you want to see on + and assiduously sit infront of it to watch it live, with updates of the score of the other match(es) appearing in the corner of the sceeen and on the commentary. Thus missing the oportuniyu to see the other match(es) in full.
It appears now that they only re-run the matches which were shown on SkyQ.
How anyone can say that this is an improvement for RL watchers (over being able to record and watch all six matches) is beyond me.
I also received the same mealy-mouthed reply on contacting Sky.
I imagine some of the football fans are spitting feathers if the same is happening with football.
