Risk Assessment needed for satellite installation

I’m in the process of buying a shared ownership house and trying to get permission to have a satellite dish put up by Sky so that it’s all sorted when I move in, reading through all my documents, there’s no restrictions on the part of the house itself but in the lease it says I need permission from the housing association, so I’ve asked and they want a risk assessment from Sky before they’ll grant permission, so I asked Sky and they said it’s not a thing so I’ve gone back to the housing association and they’ve said it is and they’ve had it from Sky many times 🤷‍♂️

Anyone else had this and if so, any idea who I speak to at Sky as I’ve spoken to a few departments including the house move team?

@carlosuk

I'm not aware this is something Sky do. The first (and hopefully the only) visit is on installation day whereby the engineer brings your Sky Q box, remote, any mini boxes you've ordered, cabling and the dish.

Sky can hardly risk assess an installation prior to the visit.

Re: Risk Assessment needed for satellite installation

Thanks, this is exactly what Sky said to me when I asked for it, however the housing association are adamant that they can provide a generic risk assessment that will cover the installation which I guess they would have somewhere 🤷‍♂️

@carlosuk  How high does the dish need to go?

@Daniel0210  I'm thinking is this something that the specialist heights team would have done, if they still exist

Re: Risk Assessment needed for satellite installation

It will be just a standard installation on the rear of the house and I believe there is or will be cabling already in situ connected to a media plate in the living room.

I don't really understand why the housing association needs this in reality as it's Sky doing the work and nobody else needs to be involved but this is what they've said.....

Thank you for your email regarding the Sky installation at your home.

Risk assessments are needed for any work undertaken by any contractor as part of health and safety law. Therefore Sky should be able to provide either a ‘generic’ risk assessment that covers the particular installation you are having done or a ‘dynamic’ one that is tailored to the specific work they are carrying out for you.

Without this we are not covered legally and would therefore be unable to grant permission.

To which I replied........

I presume I’m not the first person asking for permission to have a satellite dish fitted by Sky, so have Sky been able to provide the requested risk assessment previously as this would help with my discussions with them as they were quite adamant that they’ve never had to provide this before?

And their response........

Yes weve had a number of similar requests for Sky installation.

Its something we are legally obliged to get from them and they are obliged to give us before starting any work.

Hi @carlosuk   Tell them to use the risk assessment they have had already "many times".

Re: Risk Assessment needed for satellite installation

Thing is, I know they will have a generic risk assessment for this activity as all companies do but the hard part is speaking to the right person to get it and that's the problem as none of the contact us links are setup for this kind of request 🤦‍♂️
