Assume your Q box is in Standy and not completely switched off at the mains.
Also note that switching on your Television set will not switch on the Q box.
To switch the Q box you need a normal short press on the Q remote. Provided HDMI control is switched on in the Q box settings and also in the Television settings, the short press should switch on both devices.
