Rent the box instead of sending it back?

Hello all. I've cancelled my subscription with sky and will be sending it  back, but I've been told by a family friend I can rent the box for like £20 monthly and it still records. Is this correct?

thanks

No, I have never heard of this being possible.

Once you end your subscription, you need to send your rented equipment back to Sky.

The only way to record TV from FreeSat is is with a FreeSat receiver.

However, there's nothing to stop you from quitting all of your subscriptions down to the bare mimimum you need and paying that subscription and keeping Sky Q (and the ability to record).

hi @Baldyben

SKY have started to do what is called SKY Essentials which allows you to watch & record the basic Freesat channels so this is likely to be what your friend is referring to.

I am not sure of the cost - I think it is lower than you have quoted - you will need to call SKY to discuss

Hi @Baldyben

Not sure if this is what you are referring to Sky TV Lite/Essentials

I think it costs around £15 per month - my understanding is that with TV Essentials, you‘ll be able to Record, Pause and Rewind Free to air channels and make use of BBC and ITV catch up services as well as Channel 4 and Channel 5 catch up content in SD.

I know several people who've managed to get Sky Essentials for just £5pm so it's worth negotiating.

...or buy a Freesat 4K box and have it 'rent free'.  (There is an initial outlay of course)

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers
