Recordings when first played always start near the end

I have just recently upgraded from Sky+ to Sky Q. When I play my recordings for the first time, the recording starts very near the end (eg at 48 mins for a 50 min programme). On Sky+ you could choose to start at the beginning, the end, at a bookmarked point, or you just entered a time in minutes. Now I have to rewind the programme back to the start at the maximum speed (x30) every time. Have I inadvertently selected some setting where all recordings begin near the end ? And is it possible to still bookmark a place in the recording ?

Thanks, Neil

hi @neil-45

You should only end up part way through the recording if you have watched   the channel live during the recording.(even if just flicking through the channel can trigger this)

If the system thinks you are part way through you should see a button under the recording thumnail saying Watch from Start

Even if you miss that you can use Voice control to navigate much more easily

Handy controls are :
Skip nn minutes
Go To nn minutes
Back nn minutes

You can use hours, minutes & seconds or mix e.g. Go to 1hour 15 minutes

Skip nn minutes is very handy for adverts and you get used to the length on regular used channels (Many are around the 4 minute mark)

You can also say Go To Start

Voice control in general is very useful - see

Hi @neil-45

@When you watch any recordings using the Recordings - Most recent section there is always a Watch from start option on the right hand side it it has been partially viewed.

Regarding Playback manipulation

During playback you can go to any point using Voice control.
Ie Say go to 20 minutes etc.
See the following link for full information and list of all Voice commands

@neil-45

Firstly, the bookmark function has never been a feature of Sky Q.

The recordings starting near the end could be as a result of you flicking over to that channel whilst 'channel hopping'. This results in the box thinking you've watched the programme up to that point. For example you record Emmerdale tonight at 1930 and flick over to 103 at about 1950. When you come to watch it on playback it'll start 20 mins in thinking you've watched up til there.

Sorry @neil-45 how did I miss your question re Bookmarks - Bookmarks is one of the features I still miss after 7+ years of having SKY Q

@nigea99

I agree. Having upgraded to Sky Q in 2019 bookmarks is the one feature I miss. Not bothered about the others including the one starting with an r, ending in an s and having 'eminder' in the middle (that we don't talk about).

Re: Recordings when first played always start near the end

Thanks everyone for the answers - all were very useful.

Yes I think I (and my wife) must have been channel hopping  - we're still getting used to using the new control. The problem happened each time on a particular BBC1 programme being recorded so I can now see what would have happened.

Thanks especially for the information on Voice control - I shall definitely being using this from now on.

Shame about the bookmarks though !

Re: Recordings when first played always start near the end

@Daniel0210  strange - never used bookmarks on sky+ so don't missing.

However I do miss the ability to

   1)  add a buffer at the end of a recording  - especially useful for live sport

   2)  set a manual recording - same reason

   3)  be able to replay in slow motion.
