We have been upgraded from Sky HD to Sky Q however none of my recordings on the 'old' planner are there anymore. I can see programmes that I have purchased but every other option is empty

You cannot copy recordings from an old Sky+HD box to a new Sky Q box. If you were told that you could then you were told wrongly.

That would be as expected: the only 'transfer' mechanism is for 'Buy and Keep' from Sky Store (which has an option to re-download) because that's the only hard drive content you actually own.
