Poor sound quality from Sky Q box
The sound quality when watching Sky has recently become poor. We have had to turn the volume up a lot and and mostly this does not make a difference; talking and music drowns out the talking; people talking outside sound like they are in a box; voices can have an echo and music can sound tinny and also talking sound can go up and down. This applies to anything on Sky. I have checked the tv sound to check that was the problem and the sound settings on Sky. This does not affect the Sky mini box. I have turned it off at the mains but maybe it needs me to do something to the box. However I am not sure what to do. Any advice? F

hi @Fi60
What setting do you have in :
Home - Settings - Setup - Audio Visual
Digital audio output HDMI
If it is set to Dolby Digital can you try setting it to Normal

Re: Poor sound quality from Sky Q box
Iv been having problems with the sound quality, especially vocal, I turn it up to here the speaking then get blasted when music hits and I have to quickly turn it down, so I'm constantly playing this game of volume up, volume down....
I find if anything I want to watch on sky, if I can get the program on another format like Amazon prime, Disney etc.... I find the sound quality is so much better.. to be honest once my contract is up I will be changing... so in a nutshell if you can watch on prime, Disney, Netflix, bbc, britbox then you will get a better sound quality...

Re: Poor sound quality from Sky Q box
I am watching Sky q and have a 5.1 sound system and the sound on Sky is Very poor. for example at the moment i`m having to turn up the volume on that to 80 just for infosake i have a 1200 watt Sony system i have no idea what is causing this it`s not the system buy sky i have the sound set to dolby digital it`s connected thru HDMI. It`s not acceptable given the amount that we pay for subscribing to sky and i feel i`ts about time that sky looked into this. They concentrate on picture quality yet nothing has ever been done to address this issue amd this has been going on for quite a long time.

Not dolby digital + ?
Have to say it sounds fine on my Yamaha Receiver & B&W speakers. Dialog can sometimes be a bit quiet but that's the choice of the content owners I'd have thought?

Re: Poor sound quality from Sky Q box
Yome that answer didn`t solve anything we are on about poor sound quality from Sky Q. we all have differant systems. Just for info Dolby Digital + that depends on the program through if it`s not broadcast in that then you get no sound at all. I have tried that that`s how i know. The problem is with Sky. Another example you watch a blu-ray movie check the sound and picture on that perfect amd in Atmos Even Better. However given these days of streaming Blu-rays or dvd`s may be going the way of the dinosaur well done tech. So we are back to where we started from Problem with Sound from Sky. This is their problem not ours Sky should fix this. It`s has nothing to do with what we are using to watch programs,Flims or sport on. For once Sky Fix This. Stop making excuses.

Re: Poor sound quality from Sky Q box
DD+ does not stop audio for certain content. If your system can decode Atmos, as it seems to from your bluray comment, then it can handle everything DD+ can carry. If some audio is not playing when you have that selected, I'd suggest there is something wrong with your setup.
p.s. You're using the wrong apostrophe key too. It's a minor thing but quite annoying when trying to read your posts.

Re: Poor sound quality from Sky Q box
Have exactly the same issue. Find the Sky Q 5.1 / Atmos audio very average. If I watch the same content on an app (Not using Sky) Disney, Prime or4K blu etc, the difference in audio is amazing. Considering I've seen multiple threads on Sky platforms and elsewhere, it's clearly not a user issue, but a Q issue. For arguements sakes, it's not something my wife or mum wouldn notice, but if you're the type of person who's taken time to purchase and set up a 5.1 cinema sound experience, you'll notice the massive difference between everything else and the Q box. Watching football on Prime through my TV app sounds like I'm in the ground, Sky UHD Atmos, I have to wack up the amp to get half that quality.

Re: Poor sound quality from Sky Q box
The last two movies from Sky Cinema have been unwatchable, or un-hearable. With the sound up to 96, I still couldn't hear the spoken word. Normal levels are 42!!!
All other providers, Netflix, Apple, etc no problems. Prime video volume is 36.

Re: Poor sound quality from Sky Q box
It`s incredible isi`t it these days Sky Still thinking about Picture Quality but forgetting sound. Me i brougfht a new home cinema system complete seperate setup. Denon Reviever 4K dvd player and Jamo speakers with a Klipsch Sub works for me as i was going to do that anyway. Sky needs to do a lot more though.
