No satellite signal after weekend storm

Hi

I haven't been able to watch the TV channels since Saturday and an engineer isn't available until December 30th so I have been having a look at the system for anything obvious that may have happened. The dish has not moved and I have checked this through Google maps. There are 3 wires running along the gutter to the dish and one is hanging unconnected. I can't remember if it has always been like this and can't get good enough resolution on Google maps to see if this was always the case. Neighbours in the village say that their signal is okay. So I can only gather something has given due to the wind and rain

Unfortunately the fault will be on your set up only. Engineers will be snowed under with similar reports which will only lengthen call out response times.

Remember, a misalignment is not necessarily something that will be visible to the naked eye and could only affect one or two channels.

I'm intruiged how Google Maps helps here.  As above, the fault is almost certainly a small alignment which would not be visible to the naked eye.

Re: No satellite signal after weekend storm

Hi

Yes. I agree maps would only show a good bit of movement which could have been the case as the area where the dish is sited is very exposed. I would have thought that a small movement would result on a drop in signal strength rather than a no signal at all

Cheers Dave

There's no obligation to wait for Sky installer availablity: employing a local independent satellite television contractor is entirely legitimate (as it's technically your dish).  Unfortunately you do have to pay them though.

Yes a very small movement will only cause a drop in signal but it doesn't take much to turn that into a 100% drop. You're aiming at an object 35000km away.

Re: No satellite signal after weekend storm

The engineer visited this morning and it would seem the dish had shifted a few inches horizontally. There are conifers on a hill which are in the line of sight. The engineer said if they get much taller we will struggle to get a signal. He suggested we move to Sky stream as we have decent broadband. Any way it is OK at the moment. Thanks for the support

Make sure you research Stream fully before making that leap. It's a very different system to Sky Q, most notibly having no recording.
