New Sky Q box. Can watch sci-fi and Arts channels but after recording tells me to upgrade

New Sky Q installed two weeks ago.  I can watch the channels I have always been able to on Sky + , i.e. sci fi and Sky arts but when I record these channels it will not let me watch them always saying I must upgrade.  How can I watch them easily but not the recordings????

Are these recordings on the 'live' channels or (as I suspect) they are downloads ?

Do you have the HD add on - if not then:

As the default download quality is set to HD (high Definition) not SD then when you try to download and watch you are prompted to upgrade (i.e. take out the HD subscription)

You, probably, just need to change your download preference to SD
Main Menu -> Settings -> Setup -> Preferences

(Please note this setting can only be set on the Main box)

Hello, thank you for your prompt reply.  They are recordings of live channels but I will cetainly try the SD approach, that might  be the answer.
