Recently come back to sky broadband after a couple of years with BT and the stupid work arounds to get Sky mini boxes working.
I thought everything being Sky, it would work like a dream. In reality it's a nightmare. Internet to the main Q box keeps dropping so we're unable to watch anything other than live TV without interruptions. Neither of the mini boxes we have will work for longer than 3minutes after reconnecting and rebooting.
I've spent over an hour on the phone to Sky to get the new router working on the first place and was told that to get the Q box to connect, you had to say it was not Sky providing the internet. I've rebooted the router and both mini boxes back to factory settings and started everything again. I have a sky WiFi extender so range isn't an issue. I had everything working with BT so know boxes etc are in good locations. The internet works fine with the kids game consoles, and with the extender, gives almost 200Mbps in the furthest point in the house from the main router.
Can anybody please suggest what to do next? Will things ever work properly with Sky?

@Private128 the new max router doesn't contain the mesh system that the main Q box does and the mini boxes so when you set everything up you need to connect the mini boxes to the main q box by wps and not to your router

Thank you for your reply. I've tried connecting the mini boxes this way too with no success. This doesn't explain why the main Q box keeps intermittently losing internet connection either.

Hi @Private128
Did you connect your main Q box by SSID and Password and not by WPS.
You need to this and connect to the 2.4 Ghz band.

@oldfella I did. Tried both options for a sky or not a sky router. Both drop out.

Don't suppose you have option to connect you main box by Ethernet @Private128?

Unfortunately not. It's so annoying. Even BT which was rubbish, was better than this!!

You do also have the option of using ethernet, it's just very inconvenient to get all the cabling run through the walls /ceilings - I haven't been able to stomach it yet 😆

So basically, the service that they are supposed to be providing doesn't work?

WiFi will always be unpredicable @Private128 whoever the supplier .
Certainly many have issues but on the other hand it's working for millions of others.

Didn't say I was happy about it but I'm a lot happier now I have a stable system that just works than I was trying to fight the wifi tech. You want to dig into the Ts & Cs to find the clause where they made sure that unpredictable stuff like this is covered and not classed as their fault, be my guest.

I actually bet it doesn't work reliably for many and most just put up with it, but we'll never know.

Hi,
I'm experiencing exactly the same problem - I've got a similar thread going on over here:
https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Q/Sky-Q-Looses-Network-Connection/m-p/4844142
Any similarities by any chance?

@Chodley you couldn't put up with what's happening in my house at the moment. The mini boxes are pointless and so far even the main q box just loses connection when trying to watch it. I spoke to a sky advisor today who is certain he's fixed the main q box problems. We shall see. I've got an engineer coming to sort the mini boxes. I honestly thought the BT internet I had previously was bad but this takes the mick.

@Chodley thank you for the suggestion though! I'll see what the engineer says and look at the nodes idea. I don't want to run wires everywhere either 😩
