New BT fibre optic in my area

The copper cable in my area has degregated so much BT have started to replace it with fibre optic cable. I currently have a sky Q router, 2 Q boxes and a massive speed of... 3 to 5 mbps.  It was 15 but since BT started the work, 3 weeks ago, its reduced to 3 or 5 depending on the day.  They advised me they will need to access my home to complete the connection but do I need to do anything else. Do I need to inform Sky or have my router changed. Will it effect my billing. I will be pleased with a possible 1GB speed but would like someone to explain in simple terms if I need to do anything else. Thanks

Magic, motorbikes and meals out.

No need to inform SKY.

If using wifi to connect to the router then you may find they change your router - even though I had a Home Hub 2 they swapped mine to ensure it worked for VOIP (land line calls now digital).

If that is the case &  you use wifi to connect to the router you will need to change  the network settings to use the new wifi  - mine is/was connected via ethernet so I didn't have to change anythiing

Openreach carries out such work, not 'BT': Openreach is part of BT Group but operates independently from BT the phone company and ISP.

Once FTTP broadband is available in the area you can order it from your current ISP: a change of service typically does not happen automatically.

Gigabit would almost certainly cost more per month than you are paying now.

Ah good points  - I  think I might have misunderstood th OP  assuming they were with BT and had arranged an upgrade but re-reading I think your reply is more apt

I guess it's not impossible that local copper is being replaced with optical fibre for maintenance purposes rather than as part of the scheduled national rollout, in which case other arrangements might be applicable and no specific order required.
