Re: Never have satellite signal for CNN

Do you have any problems with GB News and Bloomberg? They are broadcast on the same frequency.

It is likely to be a dish alignment issue, even if only those channels are affected (it's very common for dish alignment issues to only affect a certain frequency) and will require an engineer visit.

No satellite signal received .this happened a year or 2 ago . Engineer adjusted the sky dish outside and it fixed it . Pity because the cnn is the channel I want to watch most

@SineadOConnor

In that case you probably need another visit.

If you’re seeing a “no satellite signal” message check that the connections from the Sky dish going into the back of your Sky Q box are still finger tight. Otherwise it’s very likely a dish misalignment or possibly a failing LNB (on the arm of the dish) so check the troubleshooting on this link
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-tv-no-satellite-signal-sky-q
It may then give you the opportunity to arrange an engineer to check the alignment of your dish. If it doesn’t you’ll need to contact Sky to book an engineer appointment.

If you are connected to a communal dish you need to liaise directly with your building management company / landlord who will have their approved engineers to contact.

It’s worth noting that:

▪️ a misalignment is not necessarily something that will be visible to the naked eye and could only affect one or two channels

▪️ a Sky Q box requires a periodic 'Keep alive' signal that is delivered via the satellite so if that isn’t received the box will close down until the satellite signal is restored.

hi @SineadOConnor

It is strange if you cannot get CNN but able to watch Blomoberg & GB News - as @xenon81  says they share the same transponder

This transponder is one of the weakest in the UK & Ireland as it is a European wide beam rather than UK/ROI  targetted

Although a long shot,  try adding it as a manual channel using the following paramaeters

Settings - Manual Tuning - Add a channel

then set

Frequency : 11671

Polarisation: H

Symbol Rate: 23.0

FEC : 2/3

Standard DVB-S2

Modulation : 8PSK

Then  Press - Find channels

It should find CNN HD  - Select it & press Save Channels

Then to see it - go back to Settings - Manual Tuning & Select CNN HD and press Select

@SineadOConnor  This is an example of a typical satellite transponder reception when it is using the tight Uk & Ire beam;

Tp50.jpg

The LBER (uncorrected signal errors) are less than 1 in 1 million samples.

This is an example of the CNN satellite transponder reception when it is using the wide Europe beam.

Tp103.jpg

The LBER (uncorrected signal errors) are averaging around 4.4 errors in every 100,000 samples, requiring the Viterby Forward Error Protection to gently start to work to remove them.

As you are a keen watcher of CNN, if you live in an area of the country where Sky fit the smaller Zone 1 satellite dish it might be worth considering the purchase of a larger, higher gain, Zone 2 dish which is available from ebay for around £45, and ask your Sky engineer to fit this higher gain dish when they attend to correct the aim of your existing Zone 1 dish.

Godfrey.

If nothing compares to CNN, then it might be worth paying £19.90 for annual access online: https://edition.cnn.com/specials/live-cnni-uk/

If your TV has a web browser (many smart TVs do), you could watch that way or use the CNN app which is available on some LG and Samsung TVs, Fire sticks, Roku etc: https://edition.cnn.com/about/live-tv
