Not sure what you mean, minis don't use a satellite dish connection?

I assumed that I had a mini box. How do I get a mini?

The primary Q box is the one that has the satellite feeds into it. You cannot replace this.
A mini is an additional box to use in another room and requires a multiscreen subscription too.

That will mean you start paying for multiscreen.
If you only have one TV and you want to hide your Sky box, this is an expensive way of going about it.

And a Multiscreen subscription. Ordering one doesn't automatically order the other. Don't forget mini boxes are loaned to you like the main box.

Re: Need to move sky q mini box but need dish connection
The reason I am trying to get a box behind my tv is the hdmi cable needs updating and as it was installed via the ceiling to my sky box in a cupboard I have no way of accessing it. I am now thinking this still will not solve the problem as I'm assuming the main box still requires hdmi cable to work.

No. The box doesn't require an HDMI cable to serve a mini. (It needs power and satellite feeds though)
But it's an expensive solution as a multiscreen sub is £15 per month. (And the mini does not support UHD if that's important to you)
They may charge £50 admin for minibox too. (Although I believe 1st box can be 'free')
Remember all hardware is loaned for the duration of your subscriptions.

I thought it was going to be so simple but hiding the box in a cupboard out of sight with cables I cannot access has proven to be a nightmare. Thank you all for saving the expense of blindly purchasing a mini box.

Not to ruin your day but the Q box doesn't like being trapped in a cupboard without sufficient airflow... They do get rather hot.

Well yeah, that's what carries the picture and sound. But if you don't want a picture out of it, then it doesn't. But as above also doesn't get on well in enclosed spaces.
There will be a way of accessing it but it might need a bit of DIY.

Thank you. The cupboard is more a large storage area and has been there for 18 years. I am trying to find a solution to upgrade but the problem is proving difficult without taking the ceiling down.
