Need to connect an eithernet cable but no free port
Hi. Changed my broadband to fibrus eero routers and works great except keeps disconnecting from my sky q box
been on with sky engineers and fibrus. They all say connect with an either net cable
one of our sky minis had to be hardwired and there is no other free ports at the back of the main box to connect the eithernet
anyone have any other ideas of what I can do to solve this please I'm for ripping the whole thing out as it could stay connected for 2 days then won't connect at all for couple days
I'm disabled so in the house loads and love my tv any help would be gladly received

Re: Need to connect an eithernet cable but no free port
Ideally, connect the main box back to the router over ethernet, and then the Mini boxes back to the same router (or an ethernet switch attached to the router)
Powerline network adaptors can be used where it's not possible to run ethernet cable.

Re: Need to connect an eithernet cable but no free port
Hi @Lexturk Search Amazon for a simple Unmanaged Gigabit Ethernet Switch. 5 port will be enough as that will give connections for up to 4 Mini boxes. This converts your one Ethernet port on the Sky Q Main box to 4 ports. One of the 5 is used to connect the Sky Q box to the switch giving you 4 ports.

that sounds simpler. Was actually looking at them but wasn't sure if it would work or not thanks

Hi @Lexturk
When all boxes are connected by Ethernet (either directly or through a simple unmanaged Ethernet switch) you can then switch off all Q box WiFi.
Start with main Q box and first carry out a Network reset with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Select connect wired to non Sky Router (or Sky router if on Sky Broadband). Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
As soon as it connects immediately go into the Q box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.
Repeat the network reset on any minis in the Mini Home menu with the Ethernet connected. Again do not do any WPS and just wait for it to connect.
Once it is connected go into the mini hidden menu (same procedure as above) and turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.
