I have a Sky Q 2tb main box and 4 mini boxes working for the past three years from a Virgin Media hub 3. The main box is hard wired from the hub 3 router but that connection is intermittent. It has been working most recently on the 2.4 gh Wi-Fi hub 3 connection. I have separated the 2.4 and 5 gh channels on the hub 3 with only skyq connected to the 2.4.
The mystery, today I upgraded my VM service and installed a VM hub 5. I turned off the skyq main box at the plug (but left all the mini boxes powered but turned off), installed the hub 5 and then re-set every other device (pads, cell phones, printers, pc, etc.) to the new hub5 network.
I then powered up the SkyQ main box expecting to have to find the new network and enter the password (as with every other device in the house) but surprisingly SkyQ powered up immediately. I looked at the settings and it says it's still connected to my old hub 3 which is unplugged and in the garage.
The status is that although it's hard wired to the router it's running on 2.4 gh Wi-Fi (I have never turned off 2.4 wifi in the SkyQ settings) and from the Netflix info it is streaming at 85 mb (it's a 100mb main box so that's O/K).
My questions, how has SkyQ connected to a new hub when it does not know the network name or password?, and as it's all working fine should I just leave it until for some reason in the future it loses it's connection and then reset and go through the new connection procedure.
Thanks for persevering through this long mail and any advice or guidance much appreciated.

I think it will have connected via ethernet*& it is just an info display showing old info
Have you looked at the connections in your new Hub's management panel - I don't know VM hubs but I suspect you can see the devices connected via each wifi band and which ethernet ports like I can in my EE (previously BT) router.
It doesn't need network password etc when connected via ethernet
BTW Just in case you need to know when you are with a 3rd party then the minis don;t connect to your home wifi but a (5Ghz) wifi network generated by your main box - so nothing will have changed for them

If any or all of your minis are using WiFi then you cannot turn off any of the main Q box WiFi.
If all your minis are hardwired then all Q box WiFi can be turned off on all boxes (both main box and minis)

@RayB10 ,
You can ignore the wrong wifi name,
Mine does it and I'm not with sky broadband, the network name there is skys inbuilt sky q mesh system, it confused me to start with but then I clocked on to what it was when I set my mini boxes up.
It even shows up if you turn wifi off and have all the boxes hardwired like myself

Thanks All for your responses, not sure how this works but I hope I am replying to everyone.
Re the advise it's connected via cable therefore it does not need new network info. I had thought that was probably it but I disconnected the cable at the router and everything kept working. However I plugged it back in again of course (if it is'nt broke don't fix it).
someone commented on hard wired minis, mine are all Wi-Fi working on (I thought) the 5mh Wi-Fi mesh generated by the main box. Interestingly I had two sky Wi-Fi boosters getting the mesh signal to the furthest two bedrooms but now seems they are not needed. Turned off for now at least.
Thanks again all.
