My viewing card isnt working & on my TV is displayed a message my card is inserted incorrectly no tv

Can anyone help me ....I have a sky Q box and I stupidity took my viewing card out to get my pin number so I could type in pin to see a movie I had recorded (I cant find sky letter wit all my details and card info) I put back the viewing card correctly but a message is displayed on my tv states my card has been incorrectly put in. What advice can anyone give me ...I've turned off the box and tv ...I'm not sure how to reboot it.... any info and advice I'd be so grateful....tks!!!

@Glamer72 try taking the card out the when putting it back in push it in to the slot until you hear a click for future reference you can get your viewing card number by pressing home scrolling down to settings press enter then scroll down to system info

Thanks for your advice but when followed out your instructions and a massage states my viewing card isnt facing up when I have correctly inserted it and the chip Is facing up .... I've tried it servel times ...turning sky Q box off my TV and repeating process..... can a viewing card expire????

@Glamer72 shouldn't have expired i've had my Q viewing card since 2016 try giving the chip a wipe over with a cloth to clean it the re-insert it making sure it clicks when you took it out did you push it in first to release it ?

Thanks so much for your advice I definitely cleaned the card and put it into the side of my Q sky box I heard no clicking sound but made sure it was correctly put in. I thought there might be probs wit my card and it expired that's gr8 to know. I will have to call sky tomorrow and find out ....could be issues wit my box and they will sort it their end.. ..I noticed that my software needs to be updated ....!!!! Tks again for all of your kind help and advice

What makes you think the software needs updating?

I am just another Sky customer!

@Glamer72 when you took the card out did you push it in first as it is on a spring load like some sd card readers so to gert it out you push it in and it springs out and the same when you put it in you push it until you feel it clicking. 

If you did not push it in to take it out then the reader mechanism may have broken
