My sky q box is over heating and not working

My sky q box is not working and i think it is overheating

Have you changed its location and more importantly is it well ventilated? You should always be able to rest the palm of your hand down on the top of the box.

Is it enclosed in a cabinet or stacked with other devices?

Or is it in the open and well ventilated?

They do run quite warm but not so hot that you cannot hold your hand on them.

Try a Reset Settings in the Q box hidden menu.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Only Carry out the first Reset (Reset Settings) as the other two will wipe all recordings.
After the Reset you will have to re pair your Bluetooth remote If you use one.
If you cannot switch the Q box on with the remote after the Reset press the Standby button (Amber led) on the front of the box.
To re pair the remote press 1 & 3 together on the remote and follow onscreen instructions to re pair.

Make sure that you are pointing the remote at the Q box when you press 1 & 3 together.

Resetting the settings will also reset:

Audio visual settings, such as picture resolution and HDMI control
Settings changed within the hidden engineer menu, include LNB type. If on a communal dish you need to reset the LNB to SCR in the hidden menu. After changing the LNB type you need to reboot the Q box.

Hi thanks for the reply,

my sky box won't even connect to the TV so I can't press anything. I need an engineer to be sent out but i don't know how to do it. I've phones sky and they sent me to this sky community.

If you definitely need an engineer you'll have to persevere on the phone. If you already have a Sky Mobile or a Sky Talk landline call free by dialling 150, otherwise you can use:

You will find that similar to calling other large companies the start will be automated which may also try to send you back to the forum. Just stay on the line and you should join a queue. 

Note: We were informed on the run up to Christmas the lines were busier than usual and that’s likely to be worse over the holiday period.
