Apologies but this is a cut and paste from an old post as this is a long standing issue for Sky Q and Samsung Smart TVs. I've had Samsung Smart TVs and Sky Q for a number of years. This problem has popped up from time to time and the best solution I found was to reset the TV to factory settings ensuring during setup the TV identifies and connects to the Sky Q box. What I find is that because the TV has its own processor and therefore a specific setting for each connected device these may become corrupted, so clearing the settings cache and performing a clean install will ensure this will remove any damaging settings. It’s a bit of a bind but if you have a Samsung account and save your apps it can make it less of a hassle, even though you still have to log in to each of your apps when you come to use them. I still get occasional black screen for a couple of seconds even now as Sky Q and Samsung Smart TVs still seem not to have totally resolved their connection issues.

Don't think this is the same issue. My screen doesn't go black, instead there is a message on screen saying that the connected sky box is not powered on, even after turning box off and back on the tv does not connect unless the HDMI is unplugged and then plugged back in

I fully undeerstand that it may not look like the same problem but as I said it might be that as it worked when you used it straight out of the box the settings may have become corrupted on the TV. It might be worth clearing the settings cache on the TV and seeing if that helps.

Just to cut in here. I literally did this with my new Samsung straight out of the box. Let the tv detect my sky box, it gave me the option to place my sky box in the quick link section and shows up as "sky" on my tv. This still doesn't stop my sky box showing as not connected or turned off one in every ten times I turn the tv on!

It's just baffling me as I've resent my tv to factory settings and also factory reset the Sky Q but nothing has seemed to fix the issue. I was thinking I could replace the Sky Q box but I don't think it's fault as worked perfectly fine on the previous tv. Really appreciate everyone's help and comforting to know it isn't just me! I just wish I could understand a reason for Sky to be picked up on the tv only when the tv is fully powered off at the socket and put back on

Okay folks Sorry if this didn't help

Note behaviour changed today after cycling Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) on Samsung input device Manager found in Samsung TV Devices connection Manager.. Sky Q box. And TV now appear to be powering up together using either Home button or power button on Sky Remote or TV power button. TV now shuts down correctly when using either Power button on Sky Remote or TV Remote. Previously the TV would shut down for a few seconds then screen would come back on with notification the Source connected to HDMI 3 was not powered on. Hope it lasts

Ah well, too good to be true😡. Went back after 30 min and same old same old🤬. Back to recycling power on Sky Q box and wait. Sorry about the false hope

1 - Samsung QE50QN90CATXXU
2 - T-PTMCEUC-0080-2013.1, E1371410, BT-S
3 - The issue has happened intermittently ever since I purchased the TV in May. I would say on average it happens maybe 1 out of every 10 times I switch my TV on.
4 - TV is connected directly to sky box. I have other Samsung TV's around the house connected to mini boxes and there has never been this issue. I have also had several other Samsung TV's connected directly to the sky box and never had this issue before.
5 - Everything has been checked and double checked. I have taken on board all advice on this thread. Reset to factory settings, made sure TV recognises sky box and gone through the relevant process.
my issues are exactly the same as others. Even though my sky box is showing as powered on, my Samsung tv is saying it isn't. I can turn on and off my tv and my sky box and nothing works other than unplugging the sky box at the main.
Would love to get to the bottom of this as it is annoying as **bleep**!

Which firmware version is the tv on, when you get this message have you tried unplugging the hdmi cable from the Sky box to the tv and lastly, what hdmi cable are you using?

I was having the same issue and completed the same step, this does sort the sky Q
powering the TV on issue, but creates a new one, sky q now reverts back to 1080i and not UHD, you can change it back to UHD but only at 8 bit, the 10 bit option will only work with any net + selected for the hdmi sky input, taking you back to the initial issue - Samsung QE55S90CATXXU...
