Re: My Sky Q box keeps disconnecting from my WiFi. It can happen half way through a film or at start

Mine is doing exactly the same and has been doing this throughout January too.

whenever things like this happen and people suggest all the reset options always makes me suspicious when it's also happening to others that actually it's sky and not us!
this was the same with the Netflix fault and then suddenly it all went back to normal when lots of people complained. It's a bit like them saying that it's us when it rains or it's windy and the satellite doesn't work...call me a conspiracy theorist!!! I have  starlink now and I absolutely know the connectivity is nothing to do with my router!

Who said it was anything to do with your router? The reason they say to reset things is precisely because the Sky box is so fragile at maintaining a connection.

as for the idea that strong winds affecting a satellite dish alignment might be somehow a fabricated excuse? What?

Re: My Sky Q box keeps disconnecting from my WiFi. It can happen half way through a film or at start

I had exactly the same issues. After reading many of the responses on this forum, I decided to try one of the recommended solutions.

I have FFTP from BT, Netgear Orbi 970 mesh system, Sky Q 2TB, and one mini Sky box upstairs.

I recently purchased a TP-Link RE700X WiFi 6 AX3000Mbps WiFi Extender Booster. Upon receipt, I plugged it in next to my Orbi hub, and then "logged in" to the Extender using the app. I then set it to join my existing wifi network, but called it "SKYQLINK" so that I could easily find it on my Sky Q box network settings. Once the extender had found all the signals (all the lights went blue), I then unplugged it and moved it to a socket behind my TV and Sky Q box. I connected an ethernet cable to the extender, plugged it into the power socket, and plugged the ethernet cable into the back of the Sky Q box (my modem and router are the opposite side of the lounge from my Sky Q box and TV).

I then switched the Sky box on, went to Settings - Network - Reset and selected SKYQLINK as my network, using the same network password as my router. Within 2-3 seconds it had connected without any issues.

I then tested the signal by choosing a 2-hour movie to download in HD and it successfully completed this in approx. 90 seconds (much much faster than previously, with no drops of signal). I then tested Netflix and Discovery+ where I had prfeviously encountered problems with the streaming and, guess what, all worked perfectly.

I remain hopeful that this has completely solved the SKY Q problem for good.

Also noticed that my PC connection now appears to be more stable, so maybe the SKY Q box was interfering with the signal throughout the house, without me realising it.

I hope this helps some of you. I'm no techie, by the way, I'm in my late sixties, but was as frustrated as the rest of you.

Woah that's freaky. So you connected to the TPLink over ethernet but then chose it as a wifi network and it worked?

Yes, it appears so. Also, I was concerned before I tried it because my network is Wifi 7, but the extender is only WiFi 6, but it seems to have worked

Re: My Sky Q box keeps disconnecting from my WiFi. It can happen half way through a film or at start

After reading many, many pages of comments and suggestions on these forums, it appeared to me that the issue is being caused by the Sky Q box connecting directly to the router/hub, or trying to. There are success stories of people using a Sky Q Booster, or Powerlines, or Extenders. I went with the Extender option. It took me approx. 30 minutes all told to set it up (including moving some heavy furniture and reinstating it afterwards).

Re: My Sky Q box keeps disconnecting from my WiFi. It can happen half way through a film or at start

I think the ethernet cable between the Extender and the Sky Q box might possibly override the "wifi network" option. I believe this is more about having a "middle man" between the router and the Sky Q box.

My WiFi is through EE fast 500 doesn't affect anything else. Tried everything to stop from happening again but nothing? Is it a new box required?

Doubt it will help. See the other suggestions in this thread.

my WiFi cnxn, worked fine on my old BT router, then I upgraded to the latest EE router, and the CNN is regularly lost early in the morning, and won't reconnect, so needs to be setup again, the router's log show no error, but regular reconnections from the Sky box,

everything else works perfectly on the wifi

See my previous comments on 1st February. I haven't had a single issue since then. The SkyQ box was messing with my WiFi signal throughout the house, but no more
