Although I was told SkyQ would be less than I was paying it is actually more! I discovered multiscreen had been added without informing me and charging extra for it. Is it a necessary to have it?

Multiscreen is not necessary for SKY Q to work in just one room - it is needed to watch in another room using a SKY Mini
Sometimes (or is that often) SKY provide the upgrade to Q for 'free' only on the basis of other options being taken out. This may have been the case here
Alternatively sometimes I think they add it as a 'trial' without making it clear
