Moving to OFNL property - need to send out right engineer

Hi, I'm moving to an OFNL/GTU property and want Sky Q. The engineer is coming around next week however I've heard not all engineers are qualified to for it. How can I check with Sky that the right engineer is coming? The call centre staff don't seem to understand

I believe an MDU installer is the appropriate personnel (because the GTU may requires additional hardware) : typically they get assigned where the address is identified as that.  Chances are most telephone contact centre staff won't recognise OFNL as a thing.

If you have a dSCR GTU, you will not need a DCSS switch to receive Sky Q services. The engineer will connect your GTU directly to your Sky Q set-top box, via your in home cabling. If you have a Quad GTU, the engineer will need to supply and connect a DCSS switch to it to allow you to receive Sky Q services

I don't think that you  have to purchase anything (Sky should provide a DCSS switch if required), but unfortunately it's likely to pretty random as to whether you'll get a Sky installer who has any experience with that particular system.

Thank you. This seems like such a silly system??

Is there anything I can show the engineer as a guide to completing it? Or is it just going to be a case of getting new engineers in until one can do it?

The issue is that Sky apparently maintains a database of actual MDUs (blocks of flats) to assign installers, but it's unclear if ONFL equipped individual dwellings are also recorded that way.

The .pdf  file I linked to appears to be relevant: I guess you could use that to try to work out which GTU variant you have.

I'm in a similar situation. I live on an ONFL housing estate upgrading to SkyQ. Did the engineer supply the DCSS Switch?

If your installation requires the Sky MDU trained engineer to install a Unitron dCSS-422 Sky Q Plug-In adaptor, then this will be provided, and maintained, by Sky.

It's does require one as I have a quad GTU, but when I've explained my situation with the guys on customer service I can tell they have no clue what I'm  talking about. He's said he's told the tech team who will leave notes for the engineer, bit I don't want the guy to turn up on Sep 6th and have no idea what he's doing.

Re: Moving to OFNL property - need to send out right engineer

yeah the people at customer service had no clue what was going on. the sky engineer turned up and kept spare units in his van. was able to just install it with ease and move on. i think all the OFNL properties are listed to sky send out the right engineer based on your location. you should be fine 😊

Re: Moving to OFNL property - need to send out right engineer

@RayG Cheers.

Yeah. When he phones to confirm the arrival time I'll just have to make sure he's got the kit and the expertise. Our coventants in the house purchase deeds say "No Satalite Dishes" yet we've seen them go up (and come back down a few days later) so I'm not 100% trusting in this database.

Re: Moving to OFNL property - need to send out right engineer

@RayG Yeah. We have the GTU already. Just a really old one (house is 10 years old). Just hope he has the DCSS Switch with him on the day.
