I'm having the exact same problem and it mainly happens at night when I'm in bed watching TV it's so annoying. I could be in the middle of watching a program and the next thing the whole thing will freeze up completely and nothing I do can fix the issue except to switch it off and on at the mains I read through many of the comments here it seems a lot of people are having the same problem. Has anyone had success in getting the issue reserved once and for all if you have, can you please let me know how you did it because it is really frustrating thank you

I tried all the remedies of rebooting resetting etc till it came up with hard drive error. Ordered new sky Q box and it came on monday so far no problems.

Hi Derek, 

Best thing to do is call sky, tell them the fault, they will run some checks. 

They will likely try to push new firmware to the box remotely. 

They will probably say, "that should do it, let us know if it happens again".

 

It probably won't crash whilst you're on the phone with them, but as soon as you hang up, it will. 

 

Ultimately,  gotta push for a replacement box. 

 

Assuming the fault is the same as what I had.  

 

Courier will then bring a new one and take your old one away in the same visit.

Don't forget to keep your viewing card.

Do you have a wired or wireless connection to your EE router ?

The only way the issue was fixed for me was to have the Sky Q box connected via wireless not wired. If you have a wired connection it will keep crashing the box. Don't ask me why but that's the only (not satisfactory) fix.

Hi all

thanks for all your responses. Sky downloaded the latest firmware which fixed it for a while but it came back again. Eventually they replaced the box. That has resolved the issue. Had no problems for about a month now.

What worked for me was, i adjusted the tv picture settings so there not as high/extreme, I mean as in ultra high backlight reduce it down slightly, same with contrast and others, work your way through the setting one at a time and itl stop flickering!! Hope this helps!

I'm on my second box today and within hours the same thing is happening. It goes into unresponsive to remote, fan whirrs up to maximum thurst, mini box loses connection, only way to resolve is to unplug and plug back in again. Very frustrating. Going to phone Sky tomorrow and ask them if I can leave because they can't provide the service I signed up for. Totally putting me off them. And I'm on Sky's own wifi so I don't think its connected to different broadband providers.

I've now solved this. It was down to the broadband router. It must have been confusing the two sky boxes somehow. Factory reset of the router miraculously cured it. Not crash or freeze or fan over working for two days now. Fingers crossed!

Yes this genuiniely seems to have been the solution. Before I reset my router each new Sky Q box I tried went into overdrive and became non-responsive after about 2 hours. Even if I factory reset the box. However, reset the router once back to factory settings and it hasn't happened since. Moral of the story, don't mess with your router settings.!😉
