Leaving SKY Q due to price increase - SKY VIP query

Hello Forum members,

This is my first ever post. I cannot afford Sky TV (SKY Q) services anymore. The £5 increase a month has really been a wake-up call for me. I am ending my loyalty to SKY after being a customer for 10 years.

I currently hold a TV and mobile subscription with them. I am looking to keep mobile. My queries:

1. If i just keep my SKY mobile account, would my SKY VIP still continue?

2. As i am still within the 30 days since notification of price increase, can i cancel my SKY TV with immediate effect (i am outside of any contract term) or do i still have to give them 31 days notice?

Thanks and Regards

Rx

That contract clause applies to broadband, not subscription television.

hi @Rashid+Siddiqui

I am sorry I don't know about SKY VIP  - one thing I would say is that TBH I don't know that generally SKY VIP means much in terms of real benefits

Regarding cancellations, I am afraid all cancellations have a 31 day notice period & you can't cease immediately - being out of minimum contract just means you can now cancel

BTW If you do cancel & return SKY Q equipment, make sure you keep the receipt (almost indefinitely) after you send it

Just in case you want to return also useful to hang onto the viewing card as SKY tend to assume you have done.

Hi @Rashid+Siddiqui

A quick Google reveals

How do I get Sky VIP?

To get Sky VIP, you need to have one or more of these products:

  • Sky TV
  • Sky Broadband
  • Sky Talk
  • Sky Mobile.

It’s worth stressing that you must be a Sky TV customer to receive certain rewards.

Re: Leaving SKY Q due to price increase - SKY VIP query

I am also leaving Sky after 23 years, I am not paying £48 per month for Signature, HD, UHD and multi room. I did agree a reduction in the price earlier this week but did not receive any confirmation, other than my cancellation was cancelled. When I rang up today they told me the offer I had been given was no longer available!!!!!! Customer service admitted they could see what had been agreed. The cancellation is now in and I will not contact them again, I  am very disappointed in being treated in the manner I have.....Sky VIP 😂

I have expended far to much energy trying to remain a Sky customer, life's just too short 🤷‍♂️

Re: Leaving SKY Q due to price increase - SKY VIP query

@Pincera - if it is any consolation, i cancelled mine back in January. I was offered something which i said i would accept only if i wasn't tier into an 18month contract. They have been charging me the full price (higher than my renewal price back in January). I called them and they said that offer is not available any more and there is no way we can honor that through credit, etc. SKY, in my opinion has gone downhill big time in terms of customer service and much lower value for money than it used to be. Already, left their broadband service back in December2022. I feel your pain. Loyalty clearly does not pay generally, a lesson well learnt !!

Out of curiosity, what are you looking to replace SKY TV with? I am looking for options..

I am going to go with Freeview for main channels I am looking for a recorder for this. If I want to watch anything else then I can dip in and out of NOW.

When Sky offered me the reduced deal, that I accepted, the Sky operater said he couldn't process it at that time because of a technical issue and would ring me back in the next couple of days, of course I didn't get the call.😱

@PinceraIf you go to "Freesat" and buy a 4K Freesat recording box it will work with your existing dish and not need the LNB in the dish changed. Other Freesat boxes that are not 4K will not work with the Sky Q LNB in the dish

@bob1234

Thank you, I will have a look at that 👍😊

@Pincera

Although be aware the '4K' branding is dubious: there is no UHD Freesat broadcasting.  The box can output UHD from on-board apps, but then so can any modern UHD television.

Re: Leaving SKY Q due to price increase - SKY VIP query

I was looking at Freeview with the intention of having a Freeview Ariel installed and having the satellite dish removed.

My view is with spread of Gig FTTP broadband why would other Entertainment providers want to go to the expense of satellites when high speed streaming is avialable. I understand Sky even has a, single point, streaming service now.

When my  wife and I discussed leaving Sky we agreed that the only thing we were a little worried about was learning a new system/process after 23 years, we were very familiar with Sky.

Streaming requires an internet connection both are of no use if you have a power cut @Pincera

Re: Leaving SKY Q due to price increase - SKY VIP query

If you have a power cut your TV and Sky boxes will not work so a working satellite will make little difference.

Fair comment @Pincera but I was referring to the  internet and Freeview Box

But I can still watch Sky Tv during a powercut though
