I have decided to take your advice, the 4k box will accommodate the Sky Q LNB without any modifications and we can record 4 channels at once. Its just a case of attaching the feeds from the LNB to the back of the 4k box and away we go.

It's the easiest solution, who knows what technology will come up with in the next 5 years 👍👍

I also will be leaving Sky after 23 years.

the latest 25% increase in my latest monthly charges makes it hard to justify.

I'll be looking at freeview as well but intrigued by a comment on the thread that said only freesat would work as a replacement?

Is this true when there seem to be a host of freebies boxes out ther?

Many thanks 😊

Freeview and Freesat are different services.

Freeview = free-to-air TV channels received via an aerial.

Freesat = free-to-air TV channels received via satellite dish.

The new (limited) range of Freesat boxes work with existing Sky Q dishes and cabling but have their issues. There are more options with Freeview hardware but it does require a wideband aerial for reception of HD channels.

Check out the availability via the appropriate websites:

As detailed above, it's the mode of delivery (aerial/dish).

But I'm not aware of any 'free' boxes.  Most TV's have Freeview built in though if you have an aerial.

To use the Sky dish/LNB the you need latest 4K freesat boxes.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

'Re: Leaving SKY Q due to price increase - SKY VIP query

That's a great help with the info guys, many thanks for the clarification.

We already have Netflix and Amazon Prime for most of our usage so really just looking for the best (I'm using a sky minidish) replacement for the UK terrestrial (?) channels in HD like the BBC and ITV etc.

Will definitely take a look at those links though.

Many thanks again.

@Hamish212Only the 4K Freesat box will work with the Sky Q LNB in your dish, if you want to use a different Freesat box you will have to get the LNB changed, at your expense.

Incidently some TVs have a Freesat input as well as a terestrial TV input and will, with the right aerial/dish will receive both, my Sony has both.

So long as a power cut does not shut down the local transmitter mast as well.
