Re: Sky should bring out another set up box like sky Q and at the moment stop focusing on smart TVs

And if they can't afford to bring out an upgrade to the sky Q box then what is happening to all the money that I give them each month? I like to think that my money would go towards something like this this obsession with smart TVs and TVs worked only by Wi-Fi in my opinion is wrong and fair enough. I'm probably the only one that thinks this and my views won't be noticed by anyway but it is my opinion. I pay sky well over €100 a month as I'm sure do many others what is our money going towards if they can't afford this

@Dobber1234  It's been explained in your last thread where you lated post has been merged to why a new Q box won't be released, why start another thread when you've been told already that Satellite TV days are very much numbered Sky won't be bring out a new version of Sky Q.

I can only think either you refuse to accept reality or your trolling?

@Dobber1234  you say you have accpeted that there will never be a revised box - although your  frequent posts don't really demonstrate that.

Putting that to one side & let's for the moment assume SKY would grant your wishes (which we know they won't) what exactly would want from an updated box / system ?

For example, I know that many would ask for 4K  to be available on minis

Nothing is going to change the facts already given to you, the communuty has provided plenty of answers as to why it's not going to happen, creating another thread about the same subject less than a week after it's been explained isn't going to help.

Re: Is sky Q and sky boxes in general eventually going to be obsolete?

Thank you for your message. Well in answer to your question I noticed they have upgraded sky glass to a sky glass second generation so why not incorporate the same features that are in a sky glass second generation TV into another sky Q box maybe this doesn't make sense to you But if they can bring out a sky glass second generation TV they can surely bring out a sky Q second generation box

Re: Sky should bring out another set up box like sky Q and at the moment stop focusing on smart TVs

@Dobber1234 I think it's clear you have this stance and that's entirely fair enough to hold that but I would challenge you though to not think about whether Sky would do this, but rather would any business do this?

In other words, if there's a viable market to launch new satellites and gobble up all of Sky's satellite customers, then someone will do that.

Separately, I don't think Sky would be running satellites long term even if Comcast didn't buy them. Before the acquisition their strategy was to launch Sky Q by Broadband, without recording, and this did make it to make it to market in some European countries.

That shifted to Sky via the Comcast global platform over broadband but the same basic idea.

Their strategy has been to deliver Sky through the internet since 2017 when they first announced that approach

Not when the corporate decision is that satellite television broadcasting to the UK and Ireland has reached the end of its natural lifespan.

The directors of the Stockton and Darlington Railway didn't choose to put their investors money into digging more canals.

If it was your own money, would you invest it in something that is going to add literally zero customers to your subscriber base and stop working in 3-4 years so you then have to recycle them all?

So no I'm not of the same opinion. The current box isn't perfect (the wifi has never worked properly, it doesn't support dolbyvision and it doesn't do 24Hz framerates) but it does the job.

The changes in glass 2 are about the TV. You could buy a new TV and get the same effect.

I would love to see SkyOS in a higher powered Q box, but the reasons why we won't have been made clear multiple times:

  1. The satellite broadcasting service used by Sky is coming to an end and everything is moving to streaming delivery via broadband (as is Freeview terrestrial delivery - see Freely)
  2. The various broadcasters and rights holders do not want recording of content any longer, as skipping adverts is hurting them financially - they want you to watch adverts, pay for them to be removed or a mixture of both
  3. The number of us that record or even watch live TV (excluding sports), continues to fall in every annual survey by organisations such as Ofcom - certain demographics hardly ever engage with linear TV these days
  4. Over the next 2 - 3 years - we will finally reach critical mass on access to high speed internet access across the UK through a wide range of delivery mechanisims

With all of the above impacting the future of linear TV satellite and terrestrial broadcasting, there is no value in building an updated version of Sky Q, all future development will be in hardware and software that supports streaming TV without recording.

What we as individual's want @Dobber1234 are neither here nor there I'm afraid. Commercial reality, changing technology and shifting demographics will always determine the way forward.

That's fine, but I still don't agree with it. I'm probably the only one in the entire world that doesn't agree with it but there you go anyway thanks for the information

No... I expect there's many thousands that feel the same way as you...  But the numbers just don't add up atm

There's still people loving Sky+  😁
