Is SkyQ the only option now?

Hi,

My Gran has a very old Sky box (pre sky +) she's recently moved and we had to get her internet services installed to facilitate a landline so I'm looking at upgrading her box.  Is SkyQ the only option now?

No. There is also Sky Stream

Can't get Sky+HD any more but I would imagine you can move it from a previous address.

PRE Sky+ ? Wow. That's going back at least 20 years. I doubt you can move that and get Sky to install the dish etc. Was she still paying a sub on it or using it as a freesat box?

Yep, we were trying to guess how old the box was and we thought 20+

Thank you, looks like it'll be SkyQ then, at 95 years young she isn't a fan of new technology and this will be a big change.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

i would ask Sky if it's possible to do a move if she's still paying the sub. Q is very different.

Or get an indie to install a dish maybe and carry on using the box as before.

@LinzJ

Note that such a box will be SD only and so will have lost the ability to receive any BBC channels on Monday.

A Sky+ HD box sourced second-hand would be closer to the current UI than Sky Q.

Ah. Yes I forgot about that. Yeah I can see why she might think the warning was only for terrestrial.

She must have been putting up with that banner for ages!

Nigea posted a good "what to expect if you change to Q" post in here somewhere. It assumes coming from HD but a lot will still be relevant.

Thank you again, she has moved into a sheltered housing complex so dish is there,  she'll be all up to date and still watch the same 3 channels, I think she could play a part in Walker Texas Ranger!

Communal dish? I would check with them that it supports Q. There are some technical requirements.
