Identifying S1 and S2 cables for Sky Q box
I've been sent a replacement Sky Q box for my faulty one. Unfortunately I was forced to disconnect the old one in a rush as the courier was rude but this means I cannot identify which cable needs to go in the Sat 1 and Sat 2 sockets on the new box. Both cables are exactly the same, no labels & both the same colour. How will I know which cable to plug into each socket?
Also, the original box had a single power cable with a blue end, this one has two separate cables with a box in-between, and what you plug into the rear of the box has a round end not a blue rectangular one, even the online instructions don't match this new box. It's also very noisy when I switch on the power, bit like a 747 taking off - should I be concerned?

It doesn't matter which way round the satellite cables go.
As for the power cable - you have been given a v2 box by the sound of it - they have this alternate type of power supply. It shouldn't make much difference, except if you had a v3 box before. They have the single power cable with the blue end and are slightly faster than the v2's. If you had a v1 box before then the v2 will be better.
The 747 noise is normal on a cold boot - it should settle down once it's updated the software but keep an eye on it.

Hi @sarah42g
It doesn't matter which cable goes into each input on the Q box.
Some 2 TB boxes do have the cables you describe.

Yes that's what I've got. I think the online set up instructions were for my old box

Re: Identifying S1 and S2 cables for Sky Q box
Thanks, will just connect them up and not worry about the 1 and 2.
I'd had the old box since Sky Q first came out so assume it was V1. So long as this one allows me to record and not have an error message across the top telling me the hard disk is not working, I can cope with the 747 😂

Re: Identifying S1 and S2 cables for Sky Q box
I solved this very issue this morning over the phone with Sky. I had a sky Q box change today due to - hardware recordings fault. No issue with dish signal as it was working right up to the box swap and was recently checked by a sat engineer. Couldn't be hardware really with new box but plugged in and it said no sat signal. Cable to sat dish is pretty new, no damage, all securely plugged in. Like you we have communal dish and have a two way feed to dish but only one cable comes into each flat to connect to sky box. So faced with two sat cable inputs on the sky box (and not recalling which one it was in before, I tried both, to no avail. Over the phone with sky, we looked at the sat signal. It said Wideband and it needs to be SCR for single cable feeds. Wide bsnd requires two sat cable inputs. To change this we went onto Settings. Hoovered over it but didn't press Settings and put in code 001 enter to access secret menu and change to SCR. I noticed even though we did this when we went back to settings and signal it ato wait we were on Wireband, so we turned off box off wall and restarted after 30 seconds to reboot box to make sure it had picked up this change to SCR. Soon as it powered on, all channels signals were restored. So the key is, SCR is the default for the signal if you only have one cable. I plugged it into input 1, but potentially both would work.

Re: Identifying S1 and S2 cables for Sky Q box
Just to add the replacement boxes are set to Wideband signal as default, which needs a two cable input. So changing signal in settings to SCR (signal cable router) is required for a single cable feed.
